Clayton would get out to an early lead but South Johnston would battle back cutting the lead to 5 points in the fourth. Clayton would come up with some big buckets late in the game to hold on to get the win 65-51.
Clayton HS Junior Forward BJ Freeman: He didn’t have his best day but when his team needed him to show up, he did what he does best. Constantly attacking in the 4th quarter he got to the line at a high rate, and shot 10-11 from the FT line.
South Johnston Senior G/F CJ Ray: He’s been labeled as an undersized PF but we saw him play every position on the court for his team. Scoring, facilitating , rebounding , were all things that he did for his squad and his stock is truly on the rise.
Clayton HS Junior Guard Mason Rusch: Does a nice job of handling defensive pressure as he pretty much kept his turnovers low throughout the game. His combination of upper body strength and solid skillset allowed him to get into the paint of the defensive and make plays for himself and others.
South Johnston Senior Forward Colby Norris: Strong upper body strength with the ability to shoot it from midrange helps him to be a threat inside and out. One of the more impressive attributes that he displayed was his defense, keeping his man in front of him and forcing opponents to work.
Clayton HS Junior Guard Javonte Long: Provided some nice minutes overall for his squad from both ends of the floor. He displayed a nice shooting stroke offensively and applied good pressure on the ball defensively.
South Johnston Senior Guard Thomas Dees: He knows his role as the shooter on this team and he plays his role well. Does a nice job of moving without the ball and getting his shot off quickly before the defense can recover.
Clayton HS Senior Forward Sha’kerr Howard: Does alot of the dirty work for his squad, which is something that every team needs from a player. Rebounding, running the floor and finishing plays inside the paint were all things we saw from him.
