Jaylen Berry 6’2 SG Basic – His stock has recently shot through the roof. Berry is a naturally gifted scorer. He would prefer to drive, however, he can hurt you from behind the arc. For him, it has been his production, and impact on team wins that has allowed him to rise. He had 34 in a win over Canyon Springs, 28 in a win over Las Vegas and 22 in a victory over rival Foothill.
Semaj Threats 5’9 PG Desert Pines – Threats is really good. If he didn’t play behind one of the best PG’s in the state, he would be putting up even bigger numbers. Love his toughness and competitive spirit. Threats is the type of little guard that loves to come down and steal rebounds from bigs. He’s a pest on the ball, and can create shots for himself off the bounce.
Francisco Carmona 6’5 PF Las Vegas – Carmona has had a tremendous impact since returning from the gridiron. His size and strength are definite assets to the team. He rebounds well and has a nice touch from about 15 feet. He has consistently been the team’s best rebounder, already producing 6 games of 10 or more boards.
Jalen Cunningham 6’2 SG Foothill – After missing early games, Cunningham is making an impact. He has a much better offensive skill set than I initially realized. Expect Cunningham to knock down 3’s and put pressure on the defense with his strong driving ability. He has a physical upper frame, which allows him to ward off larger defenders on his way to the basket.
Jason Condron 6’0 SG Palo Verde – Condron is a sniper. Textbook form on his shot, with a consistent release point. Condron probably holds his follow-through better than any player I have seen. He has been efficient all season shooting the ball for the Panthers, knocking down over 40% of his 3’s. His presence on the floor provides another dimension to an already well-balanced team.
Frank Bartley 6’0 PG Spring Valley – Bartley is an explosive two-sport athlete. He is making one of the biggest leaps up the rankings. Spring Valley is winning games, and he is providing terrific backcourt play. Good run and jump athlete, that attacks the rim off the bounce and finishes in transition. He’s good in catch and shoot action, displaying good form and a consistent release on his shot. Bartley has the lateral quickness to be a lockdown perimeter defender.
