It was a league contest for first place, and both teams were trying to establish as themselves as the team to beat in league. It was a close game throughout, neither team could separate themselves, in the end Stevenson held on to win 43-37. I could sense the intensity of the game, both teams wanted this one. Here are some prospects who stood out in this game.
Stevenson (Pebble Beach CA)
Luke Driscoll 5’11 2020 guard was the leading scorer for his team with 17 pts, and two big free throws to secure the win down the stretch. Driscoll has a lot of experience playing the game. He’s good at going toward the basket and getting his floater off for points.
Evan Johnson a 6’0 2022 point guard played the role of the speedy guard, who has the handles to attack and finish at the basket with nice spins moves, and floaters. He see’s the floor, and made solid passes to open teammates on the move. The lefty has some shiftiness to his game which tend to keep defenders off balance. 7 pts
The two big guys for Stevenson Sam Fontaine 6’5 2020 likes to shoot it from three, while his size on defense caused some problems for Christopher, Fontaine was most effective shooting 3’s. 3/4 for 11pts. Benjamin Soria the 6’6 2020, the other big did the dirty work changing shots and grabbing a game high 9 rebs and 6pts.
Christopher (Gilroy CA)
Tobenna Ezeokeke 6’3 2022 point guard. This prospect caught my attention with his size, and playing the point guard position. He had a rough night trying to get the ball to go down, he didn’t score, he averages 12 pts a game. Nevertheless he’s a big guard with good handles and strong enough to be effective at the position. His efficiency will improve over time.
Duncan Ellis 6’3 2021 got off to a hot start scoring 13 points in the 1st half. He cooled off, but did finish with 16 points. Duncan has room to improve his game, he’s athletic and plays hard. He’s got good lift on his mid range shot, his shooting form the 3 is good, and he’ll improve around the basket.
Chris Naulls 6’4 2023 I saw this team play in non-league, Naulls was still on the JV. He’s obviously good enough to contribute on the varsity. He has a good strong body and still growing. He came off the bench in this game, he’s active around the boards, working on both ends, his turnaround jumper in the key got him 2 pts, and he’ll improve his footwork and finishing skills around the basket in due time. He goes up strong on the putback, and plays with some intensity. 2 pts, 3 rebs, I’ll keep an eye on this prospect.
Ethan Fleener 6’9 2020 would be considered a project for any team he plays with at the next level. At 6’9 if he hits the weight room and improves his footwork, he could make a contribution at some point. right now he’s a good screener, he blocked 2 shots, had 8pts and 5 rebs.
