Continue ReadingIsaiah Williams‘ all-around performance last night gave Millwood the extra boost it needed to bring home a 59-to-47 victory against Casady. While making a huge impact on the offensive side of the game, scoring 29 points in 28 minutes, Williams led Millwood on the defensive side of the ball and on the glass, pulling down 11 rebounds, picking up three steals and blocking two shots.
The Millwood wing’s most impressive aspect of his game, however, was his understanding of the little things and the ability to execute on the intangibles. For example, Williams attacked Casady big man DJ Freeman, racking him up with three fouls in the first quarter. This caused him to sit out the rest of the half and allowed for Millwood to attack and score effortlessly in the paint. Williams also moved and talked well on the defensive side of the ball, keeping his teammates loud and active for all four quarters.
Pertaining to Williams’ 11 rebound performance, his aggressiveness and energy continued to display itself. He never gave up and continued to pursue the ball after a rebound was pulled down, leading to two of his three steals. Williams showed good body control and excellent timing when leaping up for a rebound, reaching the ball at its apex, above any other pursuers.
The 6’5 wing also showed great ball control, bringing the ball up the court for a majority of the matchup. His leadership helped Millwood get into their sets and slowly dissect its way through the Casady defense. There were multiple times where Williams helped his teammates get over a turnover or a slight mishap, leading his teammates to do the same for him.
Williams holds an offer from SWOSU and continues to play at a level for NAIA and D2 level schools to take a good look at. His length and athleticism combined with his sweet three-point stroke show great potential for his future.
