Riverview traveled to Southeast and picked up a 63-52 victory.
It was close for much of the way as the home side Seminoles battled but it was Riverview who pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn the win.
Here is a look at the standouts from the outing.
Jason Jackson (Riverview)
The best scoring threat for Sarasota Riverview was 2023 6’2″ guard Jason Jackson. With a team-best 11 points, he was vocal and decisive with the ball. Jackson is a smooth attacker and someone who has patience in sets and takes smart shots. A few times, he got stuck in the corner and found himself in trouble, but as the game went on he never backed down. Jackson is oozing with upside and I think by year’s end, he’ll be one of the top freshmen in the state.
Maleek Huggins (Southeast)
A red hot second quarter for 2021 5’11” Southeast guard Maleek Huggins kept his group right in the game down just three points at the break. He had 11 of his game-high 16 points in that second quarter and got into good areas to finish with mid-range floaters and smart jump shots. When aggressive, Huggins is very hard to stop and his movement with the ball in his hands and quick feet help him excel as the clear cut leader of this offense.
Matteo Catena (Riverview)
The leadership and calmness that 2020 5’10” guard Matteo Catena plays with is special. He is a solid all-around player for Riverview, who hustles on defense, calls out plays so everyone is in place on both sides of the ball and he can shoot the ball well. Finishing with nine points, Catena had some important shots in the second half that kept his team in front. He plays with confidence.
Isaiah Petitefere (Southeast)
Alongside Huggins, 2021 6’2″ guard Isaiah Petitefere was out there attacking the rim often for Southeast. Ending up with 13 points, he is a combo player who has a nice jumper and aggressiveness in his game. Most impressively, Petitefere is a big body who moves guys around and he was doing that plenty in this game. 2022 guard Malik Banks and 2021 guard Galen Washington each had 10 points, scoring at both the basket and from deep for the Seminoles.
Jayven Millien & Ashton Orton (Riverview)
Scoring six points apiece, the Rams got plenty of effort from 2021 duo Jayven Millien and Ashton Orton. The 6’6″ forward Millien caught an alley-oop where he soared over the rim. He was good in spurts and his ability to get open in transition is key right now. As for Orton, the 6’2″ guard was going to the basket and found success in the second half with his finishes.
