Continue ReadingBishop McNamara hosted St. John’s on Tuesday night in an important game in the WCAC. St. John’s led this game from the opening tip to the end of the game as it was one of the most complete games I have seen from a team this year. St. John’s won by a final score of 73-44 and below are three takeaways I have from the game.
Complete Game From The Cadets
From opening tip to the end of the game it was a complete game for Patrick Behan’s bunch. All nine players scored for SJC and everyone was locked in on defense and really made it hard for McNamara to score. This game allowed some of the younger guys on St. John’s to get extended minutes and reminded us of that the Cadets have one of the more talented young rosters in the DMV.
Foul Trouble Hurts Favour Are and McNamara
Unfortunately for McNamara, their talented big man, Favour Aire, maybe only played five minutes in this game because of foul trouble. When they do not have him on the floor they find themselves in trouble and this was the case Tuesday. They had difficulties getting in rhythm offensively which I don’t think would have been the case if Aire doesn’t get in foul trouble just because of how much the defense needs to focus on him which can open other guys up on offense.
Unsigned Seniors Show Out For SJC
Two of the three seniors on St. John’s are currently unsigned and they showed Tuesday night why they are both worthy of the scholarship level. John “Manzie” Wilson was terrific at the lead guard position finishing with 16 points and a few assists. Wilson continues to do a great job of getting past defenders and scoring from inside the paint. The other unsigned senior is John “Mikey” Square who is only getting better by the day. Square finished with 7 points and a handful of rebounds. Defensively he was great finishing with three blocks and played with great energy on both ends of the ball.
