The Cats survived behind finishes of 10, 10 and 18 points from Jordan Thompson, Sam Godwin and J’Lynn Counters, respectively. The prospects below had the most outstanding performances.
Sam Godwin | 2020 PF | Southmoore
Though it was somewhat of an off-night for the top-ranked post in Oklahoma, Godwin still posted a good performance for the SaberCats. Godwins’ performances lately have been so explosive, that he almost seems invisible if he only slams a single dunk in a game, as he did tonight. Rest assured, however, that Godwin still rebounded the ball exceptionally and scored enough to help his team battle.
Donovan Vickers | 2020 PG | Edmond Santa Fe
It seems silly that folks doubted Vickers’ ability to take a solo leadership role for the Wolves after graduating a big senior class. Vickers tallied 14 points Tuesday night to lead Edmond Santa Fe as he hit a pair of 3-pointers in a notably low-scoring affair. He also moved swiftly and tenaciously on the defensive side of the floor, leading the Wolves’ zone.
J’Lynn Counters | 2020 SG | Southmoore
Southmoore’s newcomer instantaneously became a pivotal point in the SaberCats’ rotation and, Tuesday night, started for the top-ranked felines. He didn’t disappoint; Counters netted 10 points on a pair of free throws and one euro-step to maneuver for the bucket that made Edmond Santa Fe’s defense appear mindless; the senior has great footwork, impressive change-of-pace and the ability to knock down shots on the go.
Colby Onyekuru | 2021 W | Edmond Santa Fe
Onyekuru has proved himself a consistent, high-level performer in the past year, and a quietly brilliant performance Tuesday evening might have been one of his best; Onyekuru only scored 8 points — far from his career high — but he did just about everything on the floor at one point or another. He hit a couple 3-pointers, shot off the dribble, defended extraordinarily well, passed the ball and rebounding like a man-on-fire.
Jordan Thompson | 2020 PG | Southmoore
On a night honoring Thompson for reaching the thousand-point milestone, he out-performed everybody in the gym when he scored 16 points, led all shooters with three 3PM and dished a couple assists as well. Thompson remains one of the most sought-after unsigned prospects in the OKC metro as his senior season nears its encore. He drove particularly well, even by his typical standards, and finished the ball at the rim what appeared seamlessly, at times.
Talyn Shettron | 2022 SF | Edmond Santa Fe
Shettron knocked down three 3-pointers Tuesday night, tying Thompson’s mark to lead all shooters, and finished with 13 points. The 6-foot-4-inch sophomore has a high ceiling as he reminded spectators Tuesday night with his high-flying, explosive play. Shettron defended well, too, thanks partially to his sizable wing-span and quickness.
