I got to the event around early afternoon and watched each game from that point on. I took a look at various players by year and concentrated on the top standouts from each grade. Here’s a look at some of the top sophomores from the event.
1. Kijani Wright – Windward
Wright is one of the top prospects nationally in his age group. He is a developing big man with a versatile game. He is a solid rebounder who boxes out well and is always crashing the glass. He showed off a little bit of a playmaking game at the showcase too. He’s a solid scorer in the paint and he does have improving range on his jump shot.
2. Dylan Andrews – Windward
Andrews is another key cog on a very good Wildcats team. He had a solid freshman season last year and has built off that momentum in his second season. He is able to play both guard positions. He’s already a very good perimeter scorer with a solid jumper and the ability to get to the rim. He’s got good court awareness and can make plays for his teammates.
3. Jeremiah Windham – Cleveland
Windham is a player that looks like he has a solid future as he continues his high school basketball career. He is a strong player around the rim. He’s very athletic and he can finish well in the paint. He’s able to absorb contact and he can get himself to the free-throw line. He is able to handle the ball in half court sets.
4. Kalib Lacount – King/Drew
King/Drew has a solid team this season and Lacount has been a big part of that. He’s only a sophomore but he has solid court vision and awareness as the team’s point guard. He keeps the ball moving offensively, doesn’t let the offense stagnate. He pushes the pace very well in transition. He can attack the rim off the dribble and he can shoot from three-point range.
