I got to the event around early afternoon and watched each game from that point on. I took a look at various players by year and concentrated on the top standouts from each grade. Here’s a look at some of the top juniors from the event.
1. Reese Dixon-Waters – St Bernard
Dixon-Waters has become one of the top junior prospects in the Los Angeles area. He’s picked up a few more offers this fall, most notably from UCLA and Vanderbilt. He’s a top flight scorer on the perimeter. He can create his own shot and has a good outside shooting game. He can also get to the rim and make plays for himself or for others.
2. Jaren Harris – Windward
Harris is a solid point guard and floor leader for the Wildcats. He pushes the ball in transition well. He attacks the rim and can find cutters along the baseline. Solid drive and dish player. He’s a good shooter especially under pressure. Tough and fearless player. He plays a solid two guard lineup with Dylan Andrews.
3. Ernest Blackwell – View Park
Blackwell is a key player on a pretty solid View Park team. He’s a complimentary player who plays well off of the team’s main cogs. He plays his role and doesn’t try to force anything or do too much. He’s a pretty good spot up shooter from three. He’s got a quick release and he shoots the corner three well. He makes a lot of hustle plays.
4. Simeon Grant – Cleveland
This was my first time watching Cleveland play, and Grant was a player who stood out throughout their game against South Gate. He has the makings of being an efficient perimeter scorer and shooter. He has a good midrange game and a solid elbow jumper. He gets to where he wants to go on the court in one to two dribbles. Good pull-up jumper.
