Village Christian led pretty much the entire game but Freedom would make one last run in the fourth quarter to cut the lead however it would not enough as Village held on to get the 46-39 win.
Village Christian Senior Guard Justin Thomas: Led all scorers with 17 points on the night, he was aggressive to attack when the opportunity presented itself but didn’t force plays often. Slashing to the basket for buckets and making the correct reads off of how he was defended were things we saw from him pretty much all game long. One of the overlooked attributes about his game is his ability to rebound the ball, he was constantly working on the glass against some opponents with more height than he has by boxing out and using athletic ability.
Freedom Christian Senior Guard Bosko Mihailovic: With his team needing some offensive production early on, he stepped in and knocked down some shots from outside to get things going for them. Although he wouldn’t get as many to fall in the 2nd half, the threat of his ability to knock down deep shots kept the defense honest which didn’t allow for any double teams in the post.
Village Christian Senior Zavian Mclean: He faced all types of defensive pressure and schemes as soon as the game began but overall he did a nice job of staying engaged and not forcing too much. Scoring 11 points on the night, he surpassed 2,000 total points for his high school career and will be a player that Columbia University fans love. The intensity that he always plays with on both ends of the floor is something that fans, teams and coaches love as you wont see him take plays off.
Freedom Christian Senior Guard Manrique Alvarado: He led his team in scoring with 14 points and was constantly attacking to provide opportunities for teammates. His ability to shoot the trey ball and use his speed to get by opponents on a consistent basis allowed him to make plays at a nice level throughout the day.
Village Christian Senior Wing Josh Reid: Had one of the more efficient performances of the day, scoring inside the paint as well as outside on the perimeter. Does a nice job of powering up when he’s beneath the basket to finish plays but also uses his quickness to get by taller opponents that he may be matched up with.
Freedom Christian Senior Forward Aymeric Toussaint: He had a quiet first half but stepped things up in the 4th quarter as his team looked to make a run. Attacking the paint off the pick and roll, he was able to score 7 out of his 9 points in that period to help cut the lead. Don’t be surprised to see a smaller D1 program or good D2 program take a chance on him as he has the size at 6’9 and is an intriguing prospect.
