That was definitely the case during day one of the Shore Classic Showcase. Some players carried their teams to victories, while others dazzled with their all-around solid play. Here are the top stock risers on day one of the Shore Classic Showcase.
Ben Roy, 6’0 PG Manasquan 2022
Roy may have struggled with turnovers at times against West Side, but he was simply the top player on day one. The sophomore guard finished with a game-high 19 points as he was able to get a couple of easy layups in transition. Roy also knocked down three shots from behind the arc and made several nice passes on the night. He is one of the top sophomore guards in New Jersey and is emerging as one of the top scoring options on a loaded Manasquan team.
Colin Farrell, 6’1 SG CBA 2021
Farrell was the go-to guy for the Colts throughout the day and responded with 18 key points. The junior guard was able to score easily around the rim and played solid defense throughout the game. Farrell knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the game and did not seem to get rattled by St. Joe’s Metuchen’s trapping defense. CBA needed another guard to step up alongside junior Mike White and Farrell looks to be that guy.
Jonathan Spatola, 5’6 PG Marlboro 2022
Alex Ratner and Jack Seidler normally grab all the headlines for Marlboro, but it was Spatola who stole the show against Old Bridge. The 5’6 sophomore could not be kept out of the lane as he made a living around the basket. Spatola also knocked down a three-pointer and made all five of his free throws as he dropped a game-high 20 points. The Mustangs are a three-headed monster on the offensive end with Ratner, Seidler and Spatola all capable of scoring over 20 points on any given night.
Kevin Bauman, 6’6 PF Red Bank Catholic 2020
Sophomore guard Cyril Arvantis was also an option here with his four three-pointers, but Bauman carried the Caseys’ to victory over Red Bank Regional. The Notre Dame football commit was a monster on the offensive glass as the Buccaneers could not box him out. Bauman showed off a nice tough around the basket as he led Red Bank Catholic with 20 points. The Caseys are one of the more dangerous teams in the Shore Conference if Bauman can continue to play like he did against Red Bank Regional.
Amari Campbell, 6’2 SG St. Joe’s Metuchen 2022
The Falcons may not have won the game, but Campbell had one of the best games on the day. The sophomore guard led the Shore Classic Showcase in scoring with 23 points as CBA could not keep him out of the lane. Campbell knocked down three big three-pointers in the second half which helped give the Falcons needed momentum. His play may not have been enough to get the win, but Campbell proved that he is capable of playing well in the big games.
Alex Baker, 6’4 PF Holmdel 2021
Baker dominated Franklin on both ends of the floor. The junior big man showed off a nice touch around the basket and altered numerous shots around the basket. Baker also finished several shots in traffic, a needed skill for a big man to have. The Hornets need an interior presence if they want to make any noise in the postseason and Baker looks to be their guy.
