Ray’Vaughn Anderson, Grand Rapids Union
One of two transfers on this list, Ray’Vaughn has Grand Rapids Union competing at a high level and contending for an OK Black title. The senior guard is leading the Red Hawks in scoring with 20 points a game and has Union at 5-1 on the year. After not playing at all during his junior season at Saginaw High, Ray’Vaughn’s early-season performance is one of the more notable storylines in the area.
Devon Boyd, Grand Rapids Catholic Central
Devon has been at the helm of the Catholic Central machine that is devastating nearly every team in its path. The senior guard dismantled East Grand Rapids and Grand Rapids Northview at the Aquinas Legends Classic, helping the Cougars outscore it’s competition 160-101. Devon most recently scored 17 points in the Cougars 68-54 win over Allendale.
Ryan Corner, Allendale
Ryan has had arguably the best start among any other big in the area for the Falcons. Ryan posted 21 points against NorthPointe Christian, 24 points against Forest Hills Central and an impressive 21 point, 15 rebounds and five-block performance against Catholic Central. The 6’11” big holds an offer from Grand Valley State University.
Chanse Crittendon, Comstock Park
Chanse is one of the more under the radar wings in the area who should be receiving more attention as the season goes on. Chanse posted a pair of back-to-back 30 point outings in December for the Panthers. He also helped Comstock Park get off to a 1-0 start in conference play, leading the Panthers in a double-overtime win over Sparta. Chanse recently received an offer from Aquinas College.
Justin DeGraaf, Hudsonville
After transferring from the greater Indianapolis area, DeGraaf has fit in seamlessly with the undefeated Hudsonville squad. The 6’7″ forward took home MVP honors at the Cornerstone University Holiday Tournament and most recently tallied 19 points in a OK Red win over 6-2 Grand Haven.
Menalito McGee, Wyoming
Menalito is leading the way for the Wyoming Wolves, who are off to a 7-0 start to the season and one of three remaining undefeated teams in the OK Conferences. Menalito recently scored 29 points in a 80-72 win over OK Black foe Grand Rapids South Christian.
Blake Pederson, West Ottawa
West Ottawa’s senior floor general, Blake Pederson has navigated the Panthers to an impressive 7-1 start to the season, and would be 8-0 if not for a close loss on the road at Unity Christian. Blake helped West Ottawa defeat OK Red foe East Kentwood on Tuesday night, scoring 15 points in the win.
Jimmy Scholler, Forest Hills Central
Jimmy has been on a tear so far this season, scoring in bunches and leading Forest Hills Central to a 5-1 start. Jimmy put up 26 points in a win over a solid Allendale team and two days later scored 34 points in a win over rival Forest Hills Eastern. Jimmy is committed to play at Ferris State next year.
Jarvis Walker, Muskegon
Jarvis has led the state-ranked Muskegon Big Reds to a 3-1 start to the season. His most notable performance so far this season came against East Kentwood in the Muskegon Area Hall of Fame Classic. Jarvis knocked down a pair of free throws in the final moments of the game to give the Big Reds a narrow 52-50 win. Jarvis committed to play at Purdue Fort Wayne back in August.
Emcee Williams, Reeths Puffer
Senior guard Emcee Williams is on a mission to prove he’s one of the top guards in not only Muskegon but in all of West Michigan. Emcee scored a career-high 29 points in a 75-53 beatdown over cross-town rival Muskegon Mona Shores. The Rockets are off to a 2-0 start in OK Black play and will face Fruitport on Friday in a pivotal conference pairing.
