Xavier Carnes, Central Phenix: Xavier was a force tonight for the Central Phenix Devils. He came out of the gate on fire scoring 9 first quarter points. He never really looked to force shots, rather let the game come to him. He finished with 22 points leading his team. He cut purposefully and looked to receive passes and was often rewarded with easy baskets. He was a good shooter too capitalizing on four three pointers. He forced a late game jump ball as his teams tried to put together a late game run. As a coach, it’s great to have a player that always shows urgency no matter the score of the game.
Trevone Woods, Central Phenix: Trevone took a while to get going, yet he always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. He had the task of guarding Cameron Boozer in the post. He knew he couldn’t guard him from behind, so he fronted him and forced the guards to make difficult entry passes. Trevone had a good mid range floater and was good at driving and dishing to his teammates. He had a wide open fast break layup and missed the layup. He should have two handed dunked it and capitalized.
Austin Brown, Central Phenix: Austin was a great player to compliment Xavier driving to the basket. He was excellent at getting to the right spots and getting open. He ran a beautiful pick and pop and finished with 4 three pointers and 14 points in the game.
Cameron Boozer, Lanett: At 6’9″, Cameron was a force in the post. He and his twin brother Zameron looked like the ghosts of Ralph Sampson and Hakeem Olajuwon for the Houston Rockets. Cameron was excellent at looking to post and getting the position he wanted. He could flash to the high post and knock down the 15-footer. He passed well from there to his brother on the low block. His presence inside forced the offense to adjust their shots or kick out. Cameron always crashed the boards and was even rewarded a third quarter slam for following the miss.
Zameron Boozer: Lanett: Zameron, like his brother, was a monster on the inside. He had a huge rejection at the rim and helped alter shots all game. He could get any spot he wanted in the post and finish on either side of the rim. He was all over the boards and the only way to out-rebound him was to box him out rather than out-jump him. He had a Kevin Love-like moment securing the rebound and throwing a deep outlet pass to his streaking teammate for a layup. He was a force to be reckoned with all game finishing with 22 points.
Kintavious Dozier, Lanett: Kintavious was a natural scorer. Whether it was inside or outside, he was getting buckets. He had a beautiful buzzer beater layup to end the first quarter. He could hit the corner three or attack the basket. He finished with 19 big points.
Kristian Story, Lanett: Krisitian was all but non-existent in the first half, but he was the spark which broke open the game in the second half. He started off with back-to-back rim rocking dunks. He had one frustration moment where he unnecessarily fouled the other team when laying on the ground. You have to be able to control your frustrations when things don’t go your way. He finished with 5 second half dunks electrifying even the away crowd.
Lanett will play Westbrook Christian on Monday night. Central Phenix will play Sidney Lanier on Tuesday.
