Sandy’s Spiel Showcase Top Guards
2020 6-2 CG Cliff Baskerville – GAC
Entering as one of the better guards set to attend the event, Cliff Baskerville did not disappoint. Averaging 18 points per game, Baskerville exploded for 28 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Baskerville scored the ball at all three levels and controlled the pace of play. He sank two threes and had back-to-back And-1s that broke ELCA’s spirit as the Spartans raced to a 91-67 victory.
2020 6-2 SG Christian Chambers – Evans
Regarded as one of the best scoring guards still available in Georgia with offers from Columbus State, Fort Valley State, Maryville and Chattahoochee Valley CC, Chambers was the lone Knight that came to play for Evans. Averaging 22.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals, Chambers posted 21 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block. The lefty is smooth and wired to score. He hit some tough floaters in the lane and lived at the line going 8-12. Chambers scored all seven of Evans’ points in the first quarter and remained aggressive in his three quarters of play. He is also a willing rebounder and has some length defensively. Chambers should see more offers pour through as his strong senior campaign progresses.
2020 6-1 CG Demetrius Glenn – Hart County
Back in Hartwell after spending time at Cedar Shoals, the sharpshooter did more than just cash in from deep. Glenn served as point guard for the Bulldogs and created opportunities for teammates. Glenn finished with 11 points (3 threes), 5 rebounds and 5 assists. He threaded the needle from the top of the key to teammates cutting baseline and created off the bounce. Glenn’s playmaking ability has definitely improved over the years, giving him even more value.
2023 5-7 PG Da’shaun Kates – St. Anne-Pacelli
Only a freshman, Da’shaun Kates played some big minutes down the stretch in the Vikings’ 57-52 win over Elbert County. Undersized but equipped with jitterbug quickness, Kates ran the offense well and was pesky on defense. He scored four of his 8 points in the fourth quarter and finished with 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals. Kates has a good understanding of the game and showed off a good feel, especially down the stretch in some hectic situations.
2022 6-3 CG AJ Flagg – ELCA
An athletic guard still polishing his game, AJ Flagg has some good upside and room to grow at ELCA. Flagg is best at getting to the rim. He finished with 20 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist while getting to the line six times in the fourth quarter alone, sinking every attempt. He knocked down one three in the second quarter and will need to continue to craft his jumper and ball handling, but his aggressiveness and explosiveness makes him an intriguing prospect to check back in on in a few years.
