The Ada sharpshooter was announced as the No. 2 Oklahoma prospect last spring by Prep Hoops and was named as the No. 47 prospect in the nation by ESPN on Wednesday.
Robinson is the first to commit in a talented Oklahoma 2021 class, including at least six confirmed athletes with Division-I offers in their junior AAU seasons.
The commitment may have shocked some in-staters, who expected the junior to pledge himself to Oklahoma or Oklahoma State, both of whom offered Robinson following his sophomore season.
“A&M was just the perfect fit for me,” Robinson said. “As soon as I stepped on campus, I felt at home.”
Robinson visited College Station twice since his offer during the summer, while also taking visits to Fayetteville (Arkansas), Norman (Oklahoma) and Stillwater (Stillwater), to name a few.
Ultimately, it was the persuasion skills of Texas A&M assistant Lyle Wolf that prompted Robinson to commit.
“It’s more about the staff and the players than anything,” Robinson said, “the campus is nice and all but it’s about the relationship I have with those guys,” Robinson said.
Robinson said his family, including his maternal aunt, Crystal Robinson, a coach for the Dallas Wings and WNBA 10-year veteran, were on his side completely.”
“[My mom and dad] were more excited about it than I was,” Robinson said.
Matt Reynolds previously broke down the facets and intricacies of Robinson’s commitment Tuesday (read that story here).
Robinson’s playing ability is contingent on his three-and-D style; a growing brand of talent that has been taking over the game at the college and professional levels for two decades.
The sharpshooter said he still needs to make improvements to his game to compete in the Southeastern Conference.
“To play in the SEC, I just need to get my body ready,” Robinson said, “and just stay in the gym.”
Prep Hoops Oklahoma will provide updates on Robinson’s commitment status and signing in the fall of 2021.
