Continue ReadingWith Area play ramping up and games becoming more and more important with each and every tip-off some players are beginning to put up big numbers for their respective teams. Here is a list of guys who had some standout performances in the Montgomery area over the past week.
Justin Johnson, 2020 6’3 SG, Brewbaker Tech: The sharpshooting guard had his wetter locked and loaded with 3 outstanding performances over the past week. On Friday he poured in 35 points on 12-19 shooting, including 8 3-pointers in a 73-71 win over Park Crossing. On Thursday he poured in a light 14 points in a loss to Tallassee. However, on Tuesday he was back locked and loaded as he put in 25 points 9-of-16 shooting in a 74-57 win over Beauregard. The Rams are set to face Sidney Lanier on Friday a team that handed them a home loss earlier in the season.
Justin Bufford, 2020 6’6 F, Montgomery-Catholic: The big man has put up some impressive numbers for the 5th ranked Knights so far this season. He is very self-aware player knowing exactly what he needs to do to be successful on the court. Last Friday he dropped 30 points including 15 rebounds in a 107-75 victory over Alabama Christian. On Tuesday in a 72-65 overtime win over Lamp, he posted a MASSIVE triple-double with 37 Points 20 rebounds and 10 steals. Look for this senior to keep putting up big numbers as he tries to help coach Curry and Catholic win an area title.
Antwan Burnett, 2020 6’5 SG, Sidney Lanier: On Tuesday in a huge victory over former #1 ranked team in Class 6A Huffman “AB” dropped a cool 30 piece with 14 rebounds to propel the Poets to a 67-60 victory. The man amongst boys followed that up with 25 points and 11 rebounds in a back-to-back vs. the now #1 team in the state Pinson Valley with the Poets falling 75-62. The potential high major prospect has averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds since returning to the court in mid-December. Look for those numbers to continue to rise as he becomes more and more in tune with his Poets’ teammates.
Zamari Brown, 2020 6’1 CG, Marbury: This versatile guard is able to do several different things on the floor from defending the other team’s best perimeter player to being one of the Bulldog’s primary scorers. In a 69-63 victory over Shelby County on Friday, he dropped 22 points by going 6-10 from the 3-point arc. He followed that up on Tuesday with 31 point and 10 rebound performance while going 7-17 on 3-pointers in a 72-44 victory over Chilton County. Look for him to continue to put up big numbers throughout the rest of this season.
Shaun Holmes, 2021 SG, Pike Road: With several impressive performances so far this season this smooth and versatile shooting guard is showing major improvement. He dropped a cool 20 points on Tuesday in a 76-64 win over Montgomery Academy. He is playing a huge role on a loaded Patriot team currently ranked 4th in Class 3A.
Keldric Faulk, 2023 6’6 PF, Highland Home: This 2-sport star is that a “Star” at a very young age. He is already receiving big-time offers for his efforts on the gridiron, but understand he is just as dynamic on the hardwood. On Tuesday he posted 27 points 14 rebounds in a narrow 70-67 victory over sensation JD Davison and the Calhoun Tigers. This was a huge bounce-back area win after losing by 27 to the Tigers earlier in the season.
