So while De La Salle North took some lumps earlier this season, they knew they’d still be in good shape because the Knights have that something special – George Sadi. The explosive 5-foot-10, 175-pound guard has once again been dominating the competition in 3A and while he’s still hoping that college programs will give him the chance at the next level, his focus right now is set on taking his team once again to another championship.
To say that this year has been different than the past two seasons would be right on target. The adjustments continue but Sadi feels things are coming along. “This year we have a lot of new people and our defense isn’t there yet – it’s not as good as last year,” Sadi said. “But we’re working on it and it’s going to get there. And last year we had played with each other for the last three years or so. But this year we’ve got some transfers, we’ve got freshmen and some sophomores who were playing down on JV. So it’s been incorporating everyone in that’s new.”
As noted, the Knights scheduled extremely tough in the pre-conference slate, playing top competition including a road trip up to Lynden, Washington and a return appearance in Les Schwab Invitational’s “The Eight” where they had to matchup against the likes of 6A schools Sunset and Sherwood, along with defending 2A champion Western Christian. De La Salle North came out of it all with a 5-5 record but Sadi believes it was all worth it.
“We knew that it was going to be hard for us and there was going to be a lot of competition,” Sadi said. “Our goal is to get to Coos Bay and we know what the environment is like down there so we wanted to get as many games as possible that were going to have that same environment.
Since Lewis & Clark league action began, the Knights have been back to their regular ways of winning. They’ve been humming along with a 4-0 record and so has Sadi. In Thursday night’s victory over Westside Christian, the senior guard was dominant offensively with 27 points, basically scoring whenever and wherever he wanted to on the floor. But while there’s no question Sadi can blow by his defender at any time given his quick first step and strength, he didn’t. Sadi picked and chose his spots, looking also to get the ball to his teammates for buckets as well and finished with four assists.
“It’s helped me prepare my game to be a better leader,” Sadi said of the season thus far. “Because we played a tough schedule sometimes things didn’t go our way and players got down and stuff, so I needed to be a better leader, help my guys get going. And when we’re down in Coos Bay if we get down there, they’re going to do a lot of face guarding and stuff like that to try and get the ball out of my hands. So it’s preparing us for those situations.”
Sadi remains hopeful that college coaches are watching and his recruitment has remained largely under the radar. De La Salle North coach James Broadous notes that schools such as St. Martin’s and Warner Pacific have shown the most interest so far, as have schools in the NWAC. Sadi attended elite camp at Seattle University this past summer and they’ve been in contact. Sadi remains wide open in the entire process, with the feeling that another run to a state title will do nothing but help the cause.
“I’m feeling pretty good about our chances because we’re improving every game,” Sadi said. “In the beginning of the season I can tell that we were not as good as we are now, so that’s a good sign that we keep on improving. And we’re not even in the middle of the season and we keep on improving, so we’re right where we want to be and I feel good about it.”
Sadi currently ranks as the #18 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
