Jameer Barker – 2021 – G – Racine St. Catherine’s
Barker is having a breakout season for the Angels. The junior guard is averaging 16.0 points per game and was a big offensive catalyst on Tuesday. With St. Catherine’s struggling to break through against Central’s zone defense in the first half, it was Barker who knocked down some shots and drew attention away from Tyrese Hunter and Kamari McGee. Scoring 16 points, Barker was a zone buster on Tuesday. He hit a couple of catch-and-shoot 3-pointers to get his team going. Barker also moved without the ball and got into the soft spots in the zone, where he could then hit a mid-range jumper or force the defense to collapse and find open teammates. Barker also collected eight rebounds in the win.
Bradley Bell – 2022 – F/C – Westosha Central
It was a tough night offensively for the Falcons, but I thought Bell continued to show strong improvement. Bell had 11 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks in the loss. The 6-foot-6 forward continues to shoot the ball well from mid and 3-point range. With Central’s top scorers struggling, Bell showed more aggressiveness and a willingness to try and generate a spark. He’s still gotta bigger and stronger to be able to score around the rim against this type of competition and to be able to own the glass the way the Falcons need him to, but since the summer, Bell has taken noticeable steps on both ends of the floor and has quite a bit of promise.
Tyrese Hunter – 2021 – G – Racine St. Catherine’s
Hunter had a big second half and took over right after Westosha Central made their surge to get back into the ball game. The junior guard had a flurry of transition buckets, including some acrobatic double-clutch finishes at the rim. Hunter has terrific feet when maneuvering in traffic and has a unique ability to hang and finish as well as adjust his shot to account for shot blockers. An athletic combo guard with a lot of burst and quickness, Hunter finished with a game-high 21 points in what was mostly a defensive fistfight. Hunter was 10-of-18 from the field, including 10-of-14 from inside the 3-point arc. He also added 10 rebounds and four steals. If Hunter can gain some consistency as a jump shooter, there’s nothing stopping him from being a top 3-4 prospect in this 2021 class.
Elijah Lambert – 2020 – F – Racine St. Catherine’s
This is a kid we’ve gotta get ranked here by the end of the season. Lambert had a terrific defensive performance, holding his man to just two points, which came on free throws after a technical foul. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound senior was just terrific on that end of the floor, giving up nothing, and I mean nothing, easy. Every time his man caught, Lambert was in perfect position. He stuck to his team’s defensive rules and switched when he was supposed or forced the ball handler to where he knew his help was. Finishing with five points and six rebounds, Lambert also had a big transition dunk in the first half. On the season, Lambert is averaging 11.2 ppg to go along with being one of the better defensive stoppers in his area if not the state.
