While many basketball fans may know of the exploits of his teammates Coban Porter and Jevon Porter from the talented Porter basketball family, the 6’2″ Schwartze has cut his own niche as a talented player who can score in bunches while still being able to facilitate the offense and get his teammates involved. He had a season-high of 30 points in a game last season, which included 26 in the second half.
Schwartze is one of the big reasons why Father Tolton is currently undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the latest Class 3 state poll. He has also received recruiting interest from schools such as Columbia College, Quincy, Missouri S&T and several others.
“I just try to play off my teammates and when I feel that I’m open, I’ll take the shot,” Schwartze said. “I’m comfortable at playing both guard spots, but I like passing the ball a lot so I like the point guard role, but when I need to get us buckets, then I’ll play off the ball.”
Schwartze enjoyed an excellent string of games last week in helping the Trailblazers to the championship of the Joe Machens Great 8 Tournament in Jefferson City. He averaged 13 points, four assists and three rebounds while being named to the All-Tournament Team for his efforts.
Winning championships is a big goal for Schwartze and his teammates this season and the Great 8 title is one step in that direction. The Trailblazers are looking to make a deep postseason run after being defeated by Blair Oaks in last year’s district championship game.
“Our goal is for us to win as many games as possible this year,” he said. “We want to win districts and win a state championship.”
