Prospect Spotlight: Zane Adnan (2023)
Zane Adnan, a class of 2023 guard from Bullis, has been as a key contributor for his team this season. The Bulldogs have won 15 of 16 games, and the freshman’s emergence has been part of the reason why. Adnan’s ability to contribute on both ends of the floor night in and night out has been impressive.
“I’m a hustler. My priority is to play good defense, play team ball. Make the extra pass,” he told Prep Hoops during a recent interview. “Try to get those 50/50 balls. Being a slasher. I let the game come to me. If my shot is there, I’ll take it. If I can drive, I’ll take it. Pull-ups, I’ll take it. I work well off Erik (Reynolds) and Rodney (Rice) creating. We’ve got really good chemistry in the locker room.”
Adnan says he is usually matched up with either Erik Reynolds or Rodney Rice in practice. Competing against these two daily has certainly helped his growth.
“Every day it makes me better,” Adnan said about competing against those two. “They’re really good. Coach always has me denying Rodney, denying Erik. Playing defense on them all the time. To me, they’re the best two guards in the area. Playing defense against them makes me better. And it makes them better too.”
Rice recently suffered a shoulder injury that will keep him out for several weeks, and this means Adnan will be thrust into a bigger role for the foreseeable future. His confidence has grown as the season has progressed, he appears ready to step up.
“The Z-Man has far exceeded what we thought in the fall,” Coach Bruce Kelley said of his freshman guard. “He’s accepted that defensive mindset, toughness. He knows that we’ve got some other good players that he has to play with. But while accepting that role, he’s expanded his game. Showing that he’s more than just that ball reversal guy. We’re pleased and looking for even more.”
