Continue ReadingJamie Kaiser, a class of 2023 wing from Lake Braddock, has been one of the best finds of this season so far. Listed at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, the lanky 15-year-old wing who is known for his spot-up shooting ability, but he doesn’t pigeonhole himself. As we saw during a recent win at Fairfax, when his shot isn’t falling, Kaiser finds other ways to impact the game.
“I usually try to get the team involved and just hustle,” he told Prep Hoops. “When I’m open, I usually knock down shots, but if not I just try to get to the basket.”
Kaiser said that he worked hard during the offseason to improve his ability to attack the basket, which was on full display on Friday night in Fairfax. He also noted that his passing ability is one of the more underrated aspects of his game.
“I need to work on guarding quicker guards,” Kaiser explained. “I’m a lanky wing, so I need to work on that.”
Throughout the season, Kaiser has seen his role grow from just being a glue guy who hustles, to a key cog in the offense. Coach Metress and his staff have put trust in the freshman, who models his game after Klay Thompson, allowing him to be aggressive in search of scoring opportunities.
“Coach Metress always tells me to stay level headed,” he said. “Team first, team last. Keep the team above everybody.”
Kaiser showed tremendous poise down the stretch against Fairfax. He hit 7 of 8 free throws in the second half, and this was encouraging when you consider he did not hit a single three-pointer the entire game. Another thing that stood out about Kaiser’s performance is his willingness to help rebound the ball. He led the team with 5 rebounds to go along with his 18 points.
There’s no question that Kaiser is a Dynamic prospect with a ton of potential on the court. What’s even more refreshing is his demeanor. Kaiser is well-spoken, demonstrates high character and the hunger to become great. It’s going to be a lot of fun to watch him grow over the years.
