Melton has a solid skill set that could intrigue college coaches. He’s a threat to score from all 3 levels with a consistent jumper and the ability to put the ball on the floor. Melton attacks the entire court off the bounce and can create his own looks at the bucket. He’s a big asset in transition. Melton can lead the break and put the ball in the right spot. He can also run on the wing in the open floor and finish.
Melton is working to improve his game and gain experience. He’s currently striving to become a better off the ball defender. Melton is comfortable with his on ball defense, but feels like he can better utilize his length away from the ball. He considers scoring 29 points against Belleville and contributing 20 points in a rivalry game victory over Edsel Ford as his top moments this season. Melton is looking forward to a 2nd game against cross town rival Fordson later this year.
Jack Melton has seen his recruitment begin and brings assets to the table in order to help a college basketball program. Beyond his skill set, he prides himself on being the first in the gym and the last to leave. Melton looks forward to providing a college coach with the combination of a patient and composed player mixed with a fiery competitor.
Melton is driven by his goals. This season he wants to have 13 plus wins, take home a district championship, and receive All-Conference honors. Long term, Melton hopes to play college basketball and become a better player and person. He wants to earn a college degree, get a job, and support his family.
“My biggest motivation to complete my goals is my family. My Dad showed me how to love the game of basketball and my parents both showed me how to work hard to get what I want. Also, another big motivator left us when I was in 8th grade… my Grandma was someone I looked up to and showed me how to fight against the strongest of opponents… she lost her battle with cancer 5 years ago and has been a big motivator ever since.”
