The Wolfpack who have just two winning records (2007-08 & 2014-15) in program history (launched in 2005-06) are off to a 11-9 showing this year. Under second-year head coach Ryan Briddell, South Fort Myers has gone from 4-16 to winning nearly triple the number of games as last season.
A big reason for the success has been the guard play from Wolfpack 2021 duo Cade Daughtery (transfer from Southwest Florida Christian) and Jael Rodriguez. Daughtery, a 5’10”, 155-pound guard and team captain is averaging 16.9 PPG while Rodriguez is posting 12.8 PPG. The younger Daughtery brother Carson Daughtery, a 2022 6′ guard has been a nice steady piece with 9.7 PPG.
As for Cade, he has reached double digits in all but three games this season. He has two 32-point games in two of the team’s last five matchups including against Cape Coral on Jan. 14 and against Fort Myers on Jan. 23. He is peaking at the right time for the Wolfpack.
Daughtery broke the South Fort Myers school record for 3-pointers in a game with seven early in the season against Island Coast and broke it last week against Fort Myers with eight.
“I’ve seen the most growth in my game offensively because I’m the primary scorer whereas with other teams I’ve differed more to other players,” Daughtery told Prep Hoops. “As far as recruiting goes I really haven’t heard much from colleges but coaches have told me that they like how I shoot and defend.
He has played with High Hoops for his entire travel ball career and says it has helped him plenty with his game.
In terms of Daughtery’s top strengths, he alluded to his shooting, defending the guard spot and creating for his teammates. He says, he is looking to improve his ballhandling and his ability to get to the basket.
The heart and passion that Daughtery plays with is undeniable. He is a true competitor who is both quick, tough minded and dedicated to the game. A dangerous outside shooter, he is improving in his driving ability. Playing with a ton of vocalness and leadership, he rarely disappears from games. Look for his recruitment to pick up as he plays himself into a major role this spring and summer in AAU.
