Last September, we chose a Most Outstanding Player and some Honorable Mentions from each class. It’s time to catch up with those athletes and see how they’re doing now with high school season in full swing. We’ll start by looking at the seniors.
Most Outstanding Player
Jamoni Jones (2020, PG, East Kentwood)
He was explosive off the dribble at the Prep Hoops Michigan Top 250 and that remains the case. Jones has an elite first step and burst off the bounce. This season he’s stepping back, lulling a defender in, and blowing past them. Jones is one of the best score first point guards in Michigan, and in my opinion, is continuing to show D1 skills.
Honorable Mentions
Justus Clark (2020, PG, North Farmington)
Clark continues to show his talent. On a skilled and deep North Farmington team, it’s important to go beyond his numbers. Clark does what his team needs to be successful, whether it’s score, handle, or distribute.
Ryan Corner (2020, PF, Allendale)
Corner is continuing to establish himself as a premier post player in Michigan. He was the best rebounder at the Prep Hoops Michigan Top 250 and that hasn’t changed with Allendale. Corner is developing some nastiness in his game and has scored 20 plus points on multiple occasions.
Noah Pruitt (2020, PG, Okemos)
At the Top 250 I was very impressed with Pruitt’s ability to play off the ball and be a scorer. He’s put the scoring acumen to work this season, specifically with a pretty jumper. Pruitt is proving to be one of the best pure leaders, on and off the court, in the state.
Jacob Tomsich (2020, CG, Midland Dow)
My reaction to Tomsich’s performance at the Top 250 was: “He shouldn’t be paying for college.” He’s one of the best shooters in Michigan and can hit a triple off the dribble or the catch. Tomsich is showing some ball handling and lead guard skills with Midland Dow this season.
Lorenzo Wright (2020, PG, Belleville)
Wright is the head of the snake at Belleville. He’s a downhill player that can handle the rock. This high school season I’ve been impressed with his vastly improved shot selection and consistency with his jumper. Wright has seen his stock rise a lot since the Top 250.
