After the event in September, we chose a Most Outstanding Player and a few Honorable Mentions from each class. It’s time to catch up with those athletes from the junior class and see how they’re doing so far during high school season.
Most Outstanding Player
Bennie Crenshaw (2021, PG, Waterford Kettering)
Crenshaw is showing this season that he’s not afraid to put a team on his back. He’s scoring between 15-25 points every game, along with a handful of assists and a couple steals. He’s steady yet explosive on the court and a true leader. I’m nowhere near willing to put a cap on Crenshaw’s potential as a player.
Honorable Mentions
Trinidad Chambliss (2021, PG, Forest Hills Northern)
Chambliss was lights out at the Prep Hoops Michigan Top 250 and easily could have been an MOP. He’s continued his rise up the recruiting charts by teaming with Ethan Erickson to form one of the best backcourts in Michigan. Chambliss is an excellent ball handler and a premier on ball defender.
Brandon Hunt (2021, F, Williamston)
Hunt’s versatility was on display at the Top 250. That hasn’t changed and college coaches need to see it firsthand. Hunt has had a knack for getting timely buckets this season and has shown off the expansion of his game.
Blake Lund (2021, CG, Linden)
His improvement from year to year was completely evident at the event in September. Lund is still showing off his complete game this high school season. He’s always been a great shooter, but has developed as a 3 level scorer, added point guard skills, and improved as a defender. College coaches need to see him play.
Jayden Nunn (2021, SG, Flint Carman-Ainsworth)
Nunn is so dynamic at the shooting guard position. He can create for himself or score out of an offensive set. Nunn was already named an MVP at the Motor City Roundball Classic. He’s a playmaker with Division 1 potential.
Bryan Tyler (2021, PG, Romulus)
Tyler was magical with the ball in his hands at the Prep Hoops Top 250. He’s playing his role with precision for a revived Romulus program. Tyler will have his breakout moment – trust me. He’s so spatially aware on the court and passes teammates open.
