Spring Prom is coming up all across the state. Guys will be asking girls and couples spending too much money. Based off Tuesday night’s game between Pell City and Southside-Gadsden, there are 6 key players going to the prom and it’s important to know what they will bring to the table.
Jack Wood, Pell City: Jack is smooth. Jack plays with great pace. He never goes too fast or too slow. It will be critical on the dance floor. He flashed through the lane looking for the ball and with a purpose. He set good down screens for shooters coming up to the wing and then flashed himself looking to shoot. He’s good at making a move and knowing when to back out. He showed that by driving down the lane with a head of steam and in mid-air evading a charge. He likes to step back and shoot to his left, so this could be critical on the dance floor.
Kelton Seals, Pell City: Kelton brings good and bad to the spring prom. For the good, he is relentless and never stops. His batteries never run out. He’s going to want to dance the entire night. On the other hand, though, he can sometimes be selfish and force. He loves to spin in the lane. But it’s important to control the spin and your body and if he’s spinning a girl around make sure she is ready. He runs a pretty good pick and roll, but needs to dish more than he needs to attack. As relentless as he was, he finished with 20 points leading the way for his team.
John Hadley, Pell City: John is a guy that has to go to the prom. He always seemed to do the right thing and always seemed to be in the right spot. He knew to get the ball to hot shooters, set good screens, get rebounds, and more. The girl needs to be wary he’ll lose her on the dance floor. Several times, he drew up too high on the bottom of the zone defense and let the offense get behind him.
Colton Morrison, Southside-Gadsden: Colton is going to shoot his shot at the prom and get a follow up date afterwards. From the start, he looked to shoot. He was not afraid to step back and shoot deeper threes earlier. He ran the floor well and was able to finish through defense. This will help carrying two punch cups through the hustle and bustle of the dance floor. He needs to slow down at the freethrow line. Find your routine and knock down the shot. He is a great passer too. When John Hadly from Pell City would creep up in the zone, Colton was able to throw a beautiful skip pass over the top for an easy basket.
Christopher Lengyel, Southside-Gadsden: Prom this year might be swing dancing themed, but Christopher is going to bring some European flair with maybe a salsa or the tango. He has an excellent eurostep in transition. He had a slow start and really caught fire for the Panthers in the second half. It’s possible he’ll have a slow night with the girl, but really warm up to her later. He had a big time buzzer beater runner from the freethrow line to end the first half. He finished with 23 points and was a force to be reckoned with.
Michael Rich, Southside-Gadsden: Availability is key when going to the prom. You have to have an open schedule and willingness to do whatever the girl may want to do. Michael was excellent at getting open on the block. Christopher took most of the attention and he was able to get a few easy buckets. He roams the paint well like he’ll roam the dance floor looking for another dance. When posting up, he needs to stick the defender on his back and hold him there, rather than trusting he’ll stay there.
Good luck to these boys at the prom and finishing up the rest of the season.
