Colloquially, I refer to the weekend every year as Oklahoma Tournament Weekend, or OTW; as many of the best annual brackets are played that weekend. Seeing as I was in two, three or even four gyms per day, I decided to document and chronicle the best from the weekend in a singular list.
EJ Cohee | SG | Ardmore
Watching Cohee perform against Sunrise Christian felt, at times, like an unreasonable bout; Cohee shot the ball with extraordinary accuracy while mostly taking pseudo-circus shots off-the-dribble, fading to the side or tossing the ball toward the basket with little regard for technique. It was fun to watch as a fan. Whether that performance was an anomaly; I don’t know. But I would be willing to bet my reputation that Cohee has practiced and near-perfected some unorthodox shots.
Myles Jeffries | 2020 CG | Millwood
Myles JeffriesJeffries earned an offer last weekend from Tabor College, and it was due time the senior sharpshooter received recognition. Film on the weekend would reveal, as converse to his predecessor on this list, that Jeffries is a thoroughly practiced, disciplined and almost exhaustively precise shooter from beyond the 3-point line and mid range of the hardwood. Jeffries routinely shot the ball at a high percentage in each performance I scouted him last weekend.
Dalante Shannon | 2021 SG | Edmond North
The junior scoring guard was only under my watch in a single game: the Huskies’ semi-final loss to hosting Carl Albert in its Titan Classic; nonetheless, it only takes Shannon a couple quarters of play to rip his competition to its limits with elite shooting capabilities from well-beyond the 3-point line. Standing at a lanky, handsome 6-foot-2-inches, Shannon has little friction completing shots over defenders from deep range.
Christian Cook | 2020 CG | Midwest City
Christian CookIt’s not uncommon, as I have witnessed numerous times, for Christian Cook to achieve standout performances. I have observed and hypothesized, in fact, Cook to be one of the most temperate players to watch. He always stands out, and rarely duds on a given night. Last weekend, as no exception to the trend, Cook displayed impressive, consistent and efficient shooting talents last weekend during the Bruce Gray Invitational Tournament held by Deer Creek, where the senior earned MVP honors for the weekend as he led the Bombers past third-ranked Edmond Memorial.
