Drew Fisher – 2020 – PG – Oconomowoc
Given the circumstances, thought Fisher was tremendous. With Oconomowoc’s leading scorer bottled up, Fisher took it upon himself and elevated his play against a team that very well could be in Madison this March. Not only that, Fisher was assigned to Wisconsin commit Carter Gilmore for a large chunk of the day and did an excellent job of making him work and not allowing easy drives to the rim, despite giving up about 4-5 inches. Fisher finished with a team-high 29 points. A downhill guard that can shake defenders off the dribble and get to the rim, Fisher kept the Raccoons alive for much of the game by creating easy offense. He’s smooth and skilled on the ball, making him difficult to stay in front of. Also a standout defender, Fisher was a pest all night and generated a handful of turnovers. Although Fisher is not currently ranked, that’s going to change. D3 and small schools will want to begin evaluating the senior guard if they’re not currently on him.
Greg Galloway – 2022 – G/F – Oconomowoc
Galloway got in some foul trouble, but liked some of the flashes he showed on Friday. He came up as more of a big, but Galloway’s body is starting to change and he’s developed some nice skill on the ball, allowing him to play on the perimeter. A big, strong body that can handle and shoot the basketball, Galloway has some potential to be a mismatch problem. The 6-foot-3 sophomore knocked down a 3-pointer early and created some stuff off the bounce for himself and his teammates. This is a guy that next season, when Oconomowoc loses their top two seniors, could be in store for a breakout year.
Carter Gilmore – 2020 – F – Arrowhead
From a skill standpoint, Gilmore didn’t do anything we hadn’t see yet. What was different about Friday’s effort was the toughness and tenacity to grind his way to a 35-point performance. Gilmore has always been a guy who can beat people with finesse and skill. But his shot wasn’t falling a ton on Friday and he had to win on second-chance and effort plays. When Gilmore missed, he attacked the glass and powered home a handful of second-chance buckets. Finishing with 35 points, 11 rebounds, and six blocks, Gilmore also protected the rim at a high level. Oconomowoc defended him with guards. Gilmore’s response was to bully his way into the paint and either beat the double/triple teams with the pass or simply go right through them.
Sam Hytinen – 2021 – SF – Arrowhead
This kid can get in a serious groove shooting the basketball. With how much Gilmore runs things offensively, Hytinen can feast off defenders sagging in the paint. The lefty knocked down a couple of triples in a row which allowed Arrowhead to pull away in the second half. Hytinen has good size (6-4) and a beautiful shooting stroke. Wouldn’t be shocked to see Hytinen get some Division 2 attention this spring/summer, but D3 and small school programs looking for a 3-and-D type prospect — Hytinen is a good place to start.
Mac Wrecke – 2023 – W – Arrowhead
I just really like the way Wrecke goes about his business. Yeah, he’s really athletic and has a knack for scoring the ball, but there’s a blue collar, bring your hard hat and lunch pail mentality with this kid that sticks out as well. Wrecke does a great job of being what his team needs him to be. Offensively, shots come and go when you’re playing alongside Gilmore and Hytinen, but Wrecke is always ready to score regardless. Defensively, Wrecke is far from overwhelmed physically on the varsity level and gets his job done on that end. The 6-foot-4 wing plays off his teammates really well and moves into high percentage areas to score. Wrecke also has some serious bounce and can be a weapon in transition. He finished with 16 points in Friday’s win.
