The Maroon Raiders were victorious during the showdown in which star Senior Andres Fulgencio continued his strong season. While the Maroon Raiders came out on top 54-47, there were a few noteworthy performances and observations during the contest.
Andres Fulgencio is The Real Deal
Andres Fulgencio is the real deal — standing tall at 6-feet, the Senior has yet to be held in single digits during his remarkable 2019-2020 campaign. Showcasing his best skills, Fulgencio proved to be too much for the Tigers as he showed off his impressive repertoire of moves which led to 23 points. More than just a scorer, Fulgencio has continued to be a strong rebounder, grabbing ten during the contest. The double-double is now marking eight on the season for Fulgencio. There’s a strong chance his scoring and elite rebounding will land him on All-County honors if he continues his impressive play.
John Coppolino Shined
John Coppolino, a Junior for Tenafly was steady once again. On a team that lacks truly explosive talent, Cappolino has been a steady contributor for the team and continued to showcase his intangibles and production. In a loss, Coppolino netted 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, hitting two three-point shots as well. Coppolino may never be an explosive scorer; however, he is a smart ballplayer that knows how to contribute. In 10 contest, the Junior has scored in double digits in seven games.
What to Expect Moving Forward
While both teams have impressive standouts, they play very different brands of basketball. The Tigers may lack a bona fide star, but they play the game the right way and move the ball. The Maroon Raiders run their offense different, and Fulgencio deserves more attention as we head deeper into the season. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the talented Maroon Raiders make a strong push as their talented core continues to improve.
