This past week was a special week in Nevada with a few tournaments being played in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Here are some of my best performances of the week in the northern part of Nevada.
Carson Kingston 6’2 SG Fernley 2022- When next season’s rankings come out he is a young man I really want to see on there as he really earned a spot with a strong sophmore season. On the season Kingston has averaged 15.7 points 2.3 assits 5.4 rebounds 1.7 steals per game. He has had a strong last few games scoring 20 in each game. It was Wednesday’s 1/23, game that really stood out as Kingston was a strong catalyst for a good win logging in 26 points and 10 rebounds and 3 steals. Kingston is a confident young shooter on the season he is shooting at an impressive 50% on the floor. However, on Wednesday it was his effort from deep that was the story as he hit 4/6 on his three point attempts so the young man is a confident shooter. He got the team in and out of breaks leading the game in rebounds. He plays on a Fernley team where he relativley is the go to guy. He doesn’t shy away from the moment playing at a very high level at such a young age.
Cordell Stinson 6’6 PF Spanish Springs 2020(#46 2020) – I wrote an article earlier in the week where I mentioned Stinson as the engine of Spanish Springs. He proved that theory to be correct as Stinson had a strong double double on Tuesday 1/21 against rival Hug. Stinson had 14 points and 11 rebounds along with 3 steals. Without Stinston being a dominating force inside the cougars would be missing the attitude. It’s games like this where the Cougs are scary because someone has to do the dirty work on the inside and it is always Stinson.
Trey Wilmot 5″11 G Reno 2021- Tuesday 1/21 game Reno vs Reed coulda have qualified for Northern Nevada game of the week both teams came in hot with a good record both teams are highly ranked teams in Nevada so this game would set up to be a nail biter right? Wrong Reno dominated from the start in a 64-40 victory. And Trey Wilmot was one of the leading catalyst for Reno’s big win. Wilmot led the team with 19 points he knocked down some key three pointers and most importantly he went toe to toe and won the matchup with Reed star Trey Stevens. Wilmot has given this team some key effort this year along with his teammate Skylar Hales they are a big reason for Reno’s 13-7 start.
Armahn Brantley 6’0 G Oasis 2020- One of the coolest parts about this job is learning about new schools and new players. One player that I just discovered is Armahn Brantley. Brantley is one of the better undersized rebounders in all the state on the season Brantley has averaged 19.0 points 3.6 assits 7.2 rebounds 2.9 steals. His rebounding ability is phenomenal I was blown away by alot of his highlights. I am impressed the way he attacks the ball at its highest point it’s almost like a WR catching a jump ball. He had one of his better rebounding games on Wednesday 1/22 where he had a strong 13 point 13 rebound game. For most of Brantley’s career he has been known as a scorer and very good scorer at that averaging 21 points per game. In his senior year hes shown a much more well rounded game. He may have one of the performances of the year when he scored 30 points 16 rebounds 5 steals 5 assits and 2 blocks. He is one of those players that played in a small area of Nevada all his career and rose to the occasion when he had to. He is undersized but you can’t measure his heart and he has shown that and then some.
