Here are the North Dakota Players of the Week
Grant Nelson, Devils Lake
Nelson led the way in Devils Lake’s demolition of West Fargo last week, scoring 21 points, grabbing 20 rebounds and blocking four shots. He had two assists and two steals and played a big part in limiting West Fargo big man Hunter Lyman to just one point and five rebounds. Nelson is off to a ridiculous start this year, averaging better than 27 points and 18 rebounds.
Jaden Mitzel, Shiloh Christian
Mitzel is carrying the Skyhawks early in the year and turned in an all-state type of performance Saturday in the team’s 70-52 win over Dunseith, scoring 22 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. He knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and made perhaps his biggest impact on the defensive end of the floor where he played a big part in limiting Treagan Azure to just six points.
Boden Skunberg, Jamestown
Skunberg backed up one of his worst performances in a loss against Minot with one of the best performances of his career in a win over Bismarck Century. The 6-foot-4 senior guard dropped 35 points on 12-of-21 shooting while hauling in 10 rebounds, leading the Bluejays to a 72-57 victory.
Deonte Martinez, Minot
Martinez has been an engine for the Magicians early in the season, providing excellent scoring, rebounding, playmaking and defense. The junior point guard was terrific in the team’s blowout win over Watford City, scoring 19 points on 10 shots while grabbing five rebounds, handing out four assists and recording two steals.
