Here are this week’s top games to watch:
Minot at Bismarck, 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 28
A huge WDA matchup early in the week; Bismarck knocked Minot from the top of the WDA a few weeks ago and now the two teams meet again still alive to win the league title. It should be a high-scoring affair, as both teams are among the best offensive teams in the state with a ton of perimeter shooting.
West Fargo at Grand Forks Red River, 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 28
Both of these teams went into the year with the expectation of contending in the EDC. Those dreams are all but vanquished. But both teams could use a win here. For West Fargo, it’s an opportunity to avenge an early-season loss and start to get things on track for a second-half run. For the Roughriders, it’s the game sandwiched between West Fargo Sheyenne and Fargo Davies. Will Obioha is back for the Roughriders which is a huge boost on paper. If he can work his way back into form, this team becomes really dangerous.
Benson County at St. John, 7:30 p.m., Friday, January 31
A terrific Region 4 matchup towards the end of the week. St. John is ranked in the top-five and looks like a potential challenger to Four Winds/Minnewaukan. Benson County is quietly 9-2 on the year and aside from a blowout loss to the Indians last week, has been excellent. Carter Tandeski is one of the better big men in Class B. Can he expose an undersized Woodchucks team inside?
Rugby at Shiloh Christian, 5 p.m., Saturday, February 1
This is a game we could see again in mid-March as both of these teams are tracking towards state tournament berths. Rugby is undefeated to this point and has been dominant while Shiloh Christian is more battle-tested. The frontcourt matchup of Jaden Hamilton and Jaden Mitzel should be excellent.
