Here are this week’s top games to watch:
White Shield at Powers Lake, 6 p.m. Monday, January 6
Contenders in Region 8 get together for what could be a regional championship game preview. White Shield is off to a slower start than expected but Jesse White is one of the elite players in Class B North Dakota. The Ranchers are 4-0 and winning handily. Noah Frederickson is up there with White as one of the top players in that region, as he stuffs the stat sheet on a nightly basis.
Beulah at Des Lacs Burlington, 7:15 p.m., Tuesday, January 7
Des Lacs Burlington is off to a solid start this year, going 4-1 early in the year with wins over Velva and Rolla. Freshman big man Carson Yale has been terrific early in the year for the Lakers while Jacob Burleson has been a steadying force on the perimeter. The Miners have played a tough schedule thus far, and taken losses to good teams as a result. But Trey Brandt, Jonah Larson and Dawson Zuroff form one of the best trios in Class B. Both teams have been elite on the defensive end of the floor early this year, so this one could be a dogfight.
Kindred at Shiloh Christian, 4:30 p.m., Saturday, January 11
Kindred’s early-season struggles take the shine off this one a bit, but also heighten its importance. The Vikings have struggled out of the gate while Shiloh Christian has been humming since the start. Gavin Keller is one of the best big men in the state and Kindred certainly has the talent to put things together. Jaden Mitzel is carrying the Skyhawks thus far and they look like a legitimate title contender.
