Here are a few West Valley kids that have stood out:
De’Marion Anderson – Youngker
Anderson has brought a breath of fresh air to a Youngker team that has not posted a winning record since the 2013-14 season. With over 20 points per game, he leads all big-school (4A-6A) freshmen in scoring. While the Roughriders are still finding their footing, he has proven to be a walking bucket.
Aadem Isai – Valley Vista
Isai is the highest-scoring 6A freshman thus far in the 2019-20 season, averaging around 14 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals per game, which shows a well-balanced type of game, with a great three-point shot to boot. The son of coach Isai, it is likely he will develop into an even smarter and higher-quality player.
Matthew Henry-Harrison – Buckeye
The Hawks looked at first like they might go through a rebuilding season after losing a lot of quality seniors from last year’s team. But, as a freshman, Henry-Harrison has stepped in wonderfully and averaged around 14 points a game. His defense, which has seen him average nearly three steals a game, makes him a great second option to senior Tay Boothman, and he looks to be impactful in the Hawks’ future.
Andrew Camacho – Peoria
Camacho has been important to a Peoria team that has surged in 2019 to an 11-3 record and has beaten several quality teams along the way. He has averaged around 13 points per game, but I have been particularly impressed with his hustle. In a game against Estrella Foothills, he drew three or four tremendous charges that turned the game in the Panthers’ favor early.
