St. Mary’s (Albany) 62 Central Catholic (Modesto CA) 59
Player of the game: Leo Tillson 6’4 2020 St. Mary’s.
Tillson a tough competitor, who’s got a solid build and doesn’t mind mixing it up inside. His movement without the ball led to several backdoor scoring opportunities. He comes off screens and spots up well. He has good range and shooting form. He knocked down key baskets most of the game. Four 3’s to finish with 20 points.
ST. John Bosco Braves (Bellflower CA) 67, Bishop O’ Dowd 66, O.T
Player of the game: Wynton Brown 6’8 2020, ST John Bosco. (Chico St)
At 6’8 Brown’s mobility stood out most to me. His ability to change directions on the drive and handle the ball in transition makes him a threat anytime he has the ball. He has good body control in the key, and goes up strong on the put back. He just missed a double double. 19 points, 9 rebounds in the best game of the day.
Damien Spartans (La Verne CA) 67, Saint Joseph-Notre Dame Pilots 51
Player of the game: Malik Thomas 6’3 2021 Damien
There’s really no other way to put it, Thomas put on a shooting clinic from 3 point land. He hit 3’s from the corners, wings, and the top. He threw in a couple of strong drives to the rim, but he was most impressive with his shooting. 7-9 shooting from 3-ptrs, 12-14 fgs. 35 points. High scorer for the event. Reminder this was done in 3 qtrs.
Bishop Manogue Miners (Reno Nevada) 65, Moreau Catholic Mariners (Hayward CA) 55
Player of the game: Dalton Plummer 6’2 2020, Bishop Manogue (Reno Nevada)
Plummer stepped up his game in the 2nd half, after scoring just 6 points in the first. Dalton exploded for 19 second half points to spark his team to an exciting victory in a close back and forth contest. 25 points 6 rebounds.
ST. Patrick-ST. Vincent Bruins 69 (Vallejo CA), San Joaquin Memorial (Fresno CA) 60.
Player of the game: Dishon Jackson 6’11 2020 center, ST Pats/ST Vin
Of the 5 games played DJ was the only prospect to produce a double double. 18 points, 15 rebounds, 3 blocks. At 6’11 he is most effective when he’s working inside. He has shown that he can take you off the drive from 15 ft and in, hit the midrange jumper from the elbow and corner. He has presence and shot blocking ability on the defensive end. He needs to get his body stronger, and play to his strengths for the next level. He has a couple of DI offers.
