The Zee-Bees entered the road matchup with an 11-7 record, but their two star players completely took over against Evanston picking up the win 90-71. Here are our Most Intriguing Prospects: Zion Benton vs Evanston!
Damontae Taylor (Zion Benton – 2020)
By far and away the best game we have seen out of this 6’6” forward in his career. Taylor is a super long and thin combo forward that had it all working against Evanston. In the first quarter he ripped off 11 points playing above the rim with an array of acrobatic finishes. He is excellent running the floor with his long strides and has a sweet euro step. Smooth slasher that is slippery on straight line takes. Crashed the glass offensively for second chance opportunities. He even played quite a bit on the ball showing improved handles from what we saw over the summer. Taylor finished with a game high 33 points.
Amar Augillard (Zion Benton – 2020)
Augillard is a powerfully built 6’5” 200 pound wing that is built like a college football defensive end. He plays with a tremendously high motor and imprints his will on his opponent. That is exactly what he did against Evanston overpowering them on the glass and with his physicality. Threw down several huge dunks and was powerful finishing at the cup. There was much more than just that as he shot it very well from three and passed it with a ton of flair. Augillard had 22 points in a dominant performance!
Floyd Bailey (Zion Benton – 2020)
Bailey is a sharp shooting point guard that will find a nice home at the small college level. The senior connected on a trio of threes for his 9 points.
Kayleb Naylor (Zion Benton – 2020)
Naylor stands at 6’3” and this two guard brings strength and rebounding to the table. The senior rebounds very well from his guard spot getting second chance points along with finishing through contact for and-1s a the cup. He had 12 points.
Jaylin Gibson (Evanston – 2021)
Gibson is a 6’3” shooting guard that can play effectively both on and off the ball. We continue to say he is one of the better stat sheet stuffers in the class and his best asset as a prospect might be his passing. Early on in the game he was dishing and finding shooters for open looks with pinpoint accuracy. Gibson scored around the hoop on a tip dunk and reverse layup. Scored 8 points.
Blake Peters (Evanston – 2021)
Peters has been on a tear to start his junior season. The high level shot maker has been showing other areas of his game and that has elevated his stock significantly. Peters had a nice pass early and followed it up with a pair of threes for his 6 points. Quiet night overall.
Isaiah Holden (Evanston – 2021)
Holden is a point guard with shifty ball handling that gets in the lane for scoop shots and crafty finishes. Also can hit a three when left open. Holden went for 11 points.
Elijah Bull (Evanston – 2021)
Bull probably played the best game of the night for Evanston. The smaller point guard did knock down a three which is one of his biggest strengths. He was the only super aggressive player for Evanston on the night with multiple straight line takes and cuts away from the ball to the hoop for scores. Slipped in for a put back. He had 15 points.
Rashawn Bost (Evanston – 2022)
Bost is a young point guard that is most effective as a spot up shooter. Drilled a pair of them along with a second chance bucket on the offensive glass for his 8 points. Bost could be an x-factor for this group come March.
