This was a closely contested game through all four quarters that required overtime to decide the winner. Coppell held a three-point lead with less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation, but Lewisville managed to get some quick scores by attacking the basket while also benefiting from some missed free throws to force OT. The Farmers ultimately came out on top at home, defeating the Cowboys 57-54 in the teams’ second meeting of the season.
Here are seven intriguing prospects from the game:
Keyonte George – 2022 6’5 Shooting Guard Lewisville HS – The No. 1 ranked player in our Prep Hoops 2022 rankings was absolutely brilliant during this contest. He was consistent from behind the arc, efficient when attacking the basket, and a menace on the defensive end while being tasked with guarding Coppell’s best scorer. That said, the most impressive thing I saw from George on Tuesday was his clutch performance down the stretch. He had an opportunity for a three-point play when his team trailed by three late in the game. However, he missed the free throw that would have tied things up, but never let that affect his confidence as he sliced through the defense on the very next possession and hit another driving layup with less than 10 seconds remaining to force OT. He finished the night with 31 points and a W for his squad.
Kylin Green – 2021 6’0 Point Guard Lewisville HS – Green is a twitchy athlete with exceptional quickness. It is very difficult for opposing defenders to stay in front of him. He possesses great court vision, is an accurate passer, and a smart decision maker, which are all the traits one looks for in a floor general. The junior point guard also displayed good defense on and off the ball, as well as the ability to hit pull-ups from mid-range. He and George are a handful for opposing teams to deal with.
AJ White – 2020 6’6 Center/Forward Lewisville HS – The Farmers started the night with a small-ball lineup to begin the game, but they seemed to operate much more effectively once White came into the game off the bench. He is a very good rebounder. The senior big man pulled in several offensive boards that allowed him to come away with multiple put back tap-ins and afforded his team with numerous second chance opportunities on offense. He also went up high for the catch deep in the paint and made a layup in overtime that helped Lewisville claim the home victory.
KJ Pruitt – 2020 6’4 Guard (Urban DFW Elite (Adidas)) Lewisville HS – Pruitt is a super athletic prospect who can affect the game at both ends. He is an excellent defender whose length allows him to be effective when guarding a variety of different players. Offensively, he showed that he can make shots from behind the arc from the catch, but he prefers to get inside as a scorer, which is nice to see during the modern era of three-point focused basketball.
Ryan Agarwal – 2022 6’6 Shooting Guard/Small Forward Coppell HS – I got the chance to see Agarwal at a camp in 2019 and was blown away by his shot-making ability. He didn’t disappoint in this outing, starting off the game with a pair of threes, the first of which was from super deep range. The sophomore sharpshooter can also do a lot of damage with his pull up mid-range jumpers from the elbows or baseline, as well as inside the paint with his long and wiry frame. I was shocked that he didn’t get the final shot of overtime when his team was down by three. He ended the game as Coppell’s leading scorer with 16 points.
Anthony Black – 2022 6’4 Shooting Guard/Small Forward Coppell HS – Black got into some early foul trouble and had to sit for a large chunk of the first half. However, he made an immediate impact once he entered the game in the third quarter. The sophomore wing doesn’t fool around with jump shots, instead opting to do the majority of his scoring from the drive. He is also a solid ball handler and good rebounder. He ended up with 14 points vs. Lewisville.
Brandon Taylor – 2020 6’0 Point Guard Coppell HS – With Coppell’s two best scoring options being underclassmen, Taylor provides the team with a much-needed senior presence at point guard. He is a willing passer who makes good decisions on offense, but he can supply scoring from mid-range and behind the arc too. He is a very poised player that you will never catch making stupid mistakes on either end of the court.
