While there were not many games across the state that does not mean that there were not some big-time scorers on the day. We are the top performers on the day.
Jarmell Johnson – George Washington
In the Patriots win over Golden, it was Johnson who impacted the game and made sure that the Patriots picked up a victory as he had a game-high 22 points. He is an athletic high flier that finishes above the rim but also possesses shooting range that makes it difficult to defend him. He went 9-13 from the field and also had three steals in which he turned into easy fast-break opportunities. Johnson is a high upside player that can do a bit of it all and on Monday it was his work inside.
Javonte Johnson – Cheyenne Mountain
If Cheyenne Mountain plays you can just pencil him in as one of the top scorers on the night as he is a player that can score in bunches. He is going to take shots and he is also not going to be denied in the lane as he finishes with ferocious dunks. He even pulled off one of the highlights plays of the year in this one as he had a highflying windmill dunk. He scored 21 points against Sand Creek as he hit three 3-pointers and remains one of the most difficult players to defend in the entire state.
Thaddeus Dewing – Air Academy
Senior guard Thaddeus Dewing had a career-high 21 points in Air Academy’s win over Falcon which shows that when he is locked in he is capable of exploding for these big games. He was an efficient 9-13 from the field as he is a slasher that is also a downhill runner that attacks the rim on every possession. He has a good feel inside but also is aggressive on the boards and showed that if he is not slowed down he is going to have a big game and secure the win at home.
Jack Lattanzi – Discovery Canyon
Albeit in a loss to last year’s 4A champions, Lattanzi stepped out of his comfort zone and enjoyed a big scoring night as he finished with 19 points against Lewis-Palmer. He hit a couple of 3-pointers, grabbed a few boards and went right back up with it and when it looked as if Lewis-Palmer was going to step away hit some big shots to keep it close. Lattanzi is an athletic wing that is strong down low and uses his size to get some baskets. He plays bully ball and will have to remain aggressive moving forward if Discovery Canyon wants to continue racking up wins.
Ryan Moe – Thomas Jefferson
Junior guard Ryan Moe is a small guard that uses his speed to get by defenders and it has worked as he has played off-ball and ran the break. On Monday, he was able to showcase a bit of everything as he had fast-break baskets, hit a 3-pointer and also hit a few free throws. He is a player that can dissect the defense and cause havoc once he gets inside. He was his most assertive game of the year where he was who the offense ran through. He had 19 points on the night and showcased that he is capable of having some big scoring nights when called upon.
Caden Gigstad – Ralston Valley
If there is a player that truly has upped his game this season and it seems as if there is a switch that has clicked it is Gigstad who is having a sensational start of the season. Ralston Valley is off to an 8-2 start of the season and the thing is they can truly compete with any team in the state as they have a nice inside-out scoring combo but they are led by their senior guard and captain Gigstad. He is putting 17.6 points a game as a very balanced lead guard that attacks mismatches and when the Mustangs need a basket he always delivered. Against a pesky Boulder team that pushes every team, Gigstad was still able to get going as he put up a game-high 23 points while hitting five 3-pointers in the game and also getting out on the break and finishing as well. He also made some smart read passes for baskets as well and he is a player that has shot atop our rankings sheet with games like this.
