The event concluded with three Top 10 matchups and a thrilling finish to the final game of the night which saw No. 2 Greenforest outlast Southwest DeKalb 53-52. Here’s a list of top performers.
Top Underclassmen
2023 6-1 CG David Thomas – Eagle’s Landing
One of Georgia’s best freshmen, David Thomas did everything he could to lead No. 3 Eagle’s Landing back against No. 2 Shiloh before ultimately falling 68-62. Thomas is a gifted scorer from all three levels. He drilled five threes on his way to a game-high 23 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 steals. His effort defensively was contagious and sparked the Eagles when they went to a full court press. Thomas’ progression will be fun to track over the next three years. He’s a budding D-I prospect.
2022 5-8 G Simeon Cottle – Tri-Cities
The smallest man on the floor, Simeon Cottle has always had a nose for the ball. For his size, Cottle can be found sneaking in for offensive rebounds each game. He has a high IQ and is a pesky defender. He had 8 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block against No. 8 East Coweta.
2023 5-8 G Austen Colton – East Coweta
For an undersized freshman, Austen Colton plays with great confidence. He doesn’t get sped up and does a good job of finding open spaces in the defense, especially beyond the three-point line where he is most dangerous. Colton had 5 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 1 steal.
2022 6-1 CG Chase Cormier – Greenforest
Chase Cormier‘s move from St. Pius X to Greenforest in the middle of the season has him going from number one scoring option to one of many with the Eagles. He came off the bench and provided instant offense against Southwest DeKalb, drilling two threes. His aggressiveness on the glass and on-ball defense was impressive. Cormier finished with 6 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals.
2022 6-2 SG Jalen Forrest – Greenforest
A physically strong guard, Jalen Forrest did more than just bull his way to the rim. He showed off a nice touch from deep, hitting two threes in his 8-point performance. Defensively, his size lets him body up smaller guards and defend without fouling. He swatted away two shots in the Eagles’ 53-52 win over Southwest DeKalb.
2022 6-4 SG Florian Tenebay – Greenforest
Maybe the biggest free throws of his young high school career, Tenebay was fouled with 2.7 seconds left down one against Southwest DeKalb. He coolly sank both to give the Eagles a thrilling 53-52 victory. Tenebay has the clutch gene as he went 4-4 from the line in the fourth. He finished with 9 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. He’s a big guard that did most of his damage inside the arc. Developing an outside shot will help his offensive game.
