Continue ReadingMany of the top prospects from NorCal were on hand at the MLK Event at St Mary’s College in Moraga. There were plenty of college coaches, media, and scouts in attendance. The host, St Mary’s, Santa Clara, and Washington State, and many more on this special day in NorCal. Here are the players who earned MOP in their respective games, and a few others
Weston Ranch 65, Moreau 53
Trey Knight 6’0 2022 guard MOP, is the leading scorer on his team, and that role continued on this day. Working at the off guard position Knight continues to expand his skill set finishing with 17 pts. On the other side Donjae Linsey from Weston Ranch 6’1 2021 guard with good quickness has emerged as one of the top 2021 prospects in the San Joaquin Section dropped 19 second half points to finish with 23 on the day.
Capitol Christian 60 Riverside Poly 43
Darrion Williams, 6’6 2022 point forward MOP, for Capital Christian. He has established himself as a high IQ baller, doing just about whatever he wants to do on the court. His skill set is right on pace. He’s not super fast, but very effective. He put on one of the better performances of the day. 15 pts, 18 rebs. His teammate Caden Flowers 6’0 2021 point guard doesn’t get enough credit for his willingness to guard anybody on the court. Every big game, Flowers takes the challenge of guarding the best guard on the floor. He’s a big time defender and floor leader.
Damien 79, St Pats/ St Vin 60
Dishon Jackson 6’10 center 2020, MOP and Jaden Alexander 6’4 2021 for St. Pats didn’t quite have enough man power to deal with the shooters from Damien which features one of the hottest shooters in California right now. Malik Thomas 6’3 2021 for Damien MOP, dropped 26 pts. Everyone knows about the dominance of 6’10 Jackson in the Paint, 17 pts 10 rebs. Alexander is another one of those players, everytime I see him play he goes off. He’s an athlete,16 pts, 7 rebs.
Salesian 50, Pacifica Christian 35
Salesian Pride is rounding into form. This team has added a few players that were missing early on. Demarshay Johnson 6’9 2021 forward and Dante Sawyer 6’4 2021 adds more size, and depth to the NorCal contenders. Te’jan Sawyer 6’8 2020 racked up player of the game honors, MOP with his dominating performance inside. He’s too big, his footwork is there and he’s motivated to lead this team. 16 pts 5 rebs.
De la Salle 56 Central Catholic 47 (Oregon)
It wasn’t the prettiest game, but the host gutted it out to get the victory after trailing for good parts of the game. The Spartans have a good young team. They have ups and downs. Chris Bunch 6’6 2022, Jeremiah Dargan 6’4 2022, Noah Clifford 6’6 2022, and Miles Daniel 6’1 2021 point guard will grow and become a tough unit. Bunch 14 pts, Daniels 11. Central Catholic had a tough task in trying to knock-off the favored host, but almost pulled it off with it’s duo of Deray Seamster 6’2 2020 guard and Darius Gakwasi 6’5 2021, they combined for 26 of the teams total 47 pts.
Dublin 64, Modesto Christian 49
Anthony Roy 6’4 2020 MOP, led the way for Dublin, while Alex Merkviladze was Modesto’s standout player. Jaden Phillips the 6’5 2021 transfer is spending more time at the point guard, and Chris Fan a 6’8 2021 is improved.
Bishop O’Dowd 50, Campolindo 49
Probably the most exciting game of the event. There were a few signed prospects in this game Monty Bowser (Cal Berkeley) and Carter Mahaney (Northern Arizona). With that being said the MOP of the game belonged to Jalen Lewis the 6’8 2023 center from O’Dowd knocked down the game winner with 2 seconds left to get the win, he finished with 14 pts, 8 rebs. Aidan Mahaney 6’3 2022 Campolindo, and Marsalis Roberson 6’4 2021 O’Dowd, showed why they are highly regarded prospects in NorCal.
