Here is a rundown of 10 local class of 2021 prospects who’ve boosted their stock during the past couple of months.
CHARLES AMO-YARTEY | JOHN PAUL THE GREAT
Amo-Yartey has fit in nicely with the Wolfpack. The 6-foot-1 guard has long arms, competes defensively, and is active on the glass. Amo-Yartey moves well without the ball. He has a nice in-between game and showcases good touch from the foul line. Right now, he is playing behind a trio of seniors but by this time next year, he could become one of the more consistent producers in Northern Virginia.
JAIDEN BUTLER | ST. CHARLES
Butler has shown good potential in the past, but it seems as though he’s realized it this year. The 6-foot-5 forward is a forceful paint presence on the defensive end for the Spartans. Butler is developing a versatile scoring package on the offensive end as well. He’s got great hands and can score inside out.
IKE ONU-CHIEDO | CHURCHILL
Churchill is currently riding a 6-game win streak, and Onu-Chiedo’s emergence has been a key element to his team’s success. The athletic 6-foot-4 forward is a good rim-runner who plays above the rim.
JORDAN HAWKINS | DEMATHA
Hawkins is growing in his role with the Stags as the season progresses. The 6-foot-6 swingman is a reliable catch and shoot option who is active defensively. Hawkins should continue to improve as his frame fills out and his skill set continues to expand.
GARRETT JOHNSON | EPISCOPAL
Johnson is playing his best ball of the season right now for the Maroon. The 6-foot-7 wing is averaging 28 points per game over his last two. Johnson is known most for his shooting but has shown the ability to mix it up off the bounce and clean the glass.
KENNY MCKOY | ST. MARY’S RYKEN
McKoy has made a consistent impact for the Knights as a result of his relentless motor. The 6-foot-5 forward helps control the glass and is active defensively. McKoy’s expanding face-up skills and ability to finish around the rim have made him a steady producer on the offensive end.
KHYRIE STATEN | ST. FRANCES
Our guy Colby Giacubeno has kept an eye on Staten this year, and based on what we’re hearing, he is a no-brainer for this list. The blossoming guard prospect is playing with a ton of confidence of late and has been a legitimate scoring threat for the Panthers.
D’ANGELO STINES | MT. ST. JOE
Stines has quietly been one of the Gaels’ best players this season. The lanky guard, who was named All-Tournament down in Florida last month, is a good rebounder and a crafty scorer.
JACK TAYLOR | MARSHALL
Taylor is enjoying a breakout season for the Statesmen. The 6-foot-4 guard is currently averaging close to 23 points per game this season, including a personal-best 40 point outburst in a win over Lee. Taylor’s emergence comes to no surprise, as we’ve seen glimpses of his potential for some time now.
DAY’SJUAN WATERS | GOOD COUNSEL
Waters has been a key contributor for a much improved Falcons team. The 6-foot-4 swingman recently scored 30 points against Paul VI and is regularly listed among the leading scorers for his team.
