Continue ReadingGeorgia has been a hotbed for player movement for years but the amount of impactful mid-season transfers that have taken place over the winter break is more than I can remember in recent memory. Some All-State players are on the move with hopes of being eligible and being the piece that puts their new team over the top.
2022 6-1 G Chase Cormier
(St. Pius X to Greenforest)
A Class 4A Preseason First Team All-State pick, Chase Cormier left St. Pius X for basketball factory Greenforest and scored 19 points in his debut, a 94-47 win over Elite Scholars Academy. Cormier, a dynamite three-point shooter who has proven he can now create with the ball in his hands, joins a Greenforest team that needed elite guard play and outside shooting. 6-foot-6 Drexel-signee Lamar Oden will be able to play off the ball some more now as Cormier joins 5-foot-6 junior Khi Cook and 6-foot-2 sophomore Jalen Forrest as another primary ball handler. Cormier could put Greenforest over the top. Inside, 6-foot-11 MTSU-signee Christian Fussell patrols the paint with a handful of others flirting with 7-feet. Greenforest’s top competition is defending state champion St. Francis. Greenforest hasn’t played the Knights since Xavier-signee Dwon Odom’s freshman year when Greenforest won by 30 in the Final Four. The rosters are completely different for each team but with Cormier now in the mix as a three-point marksman that can get open looks if Greenforest chooses to play inside-out, the Eagles might have the roster to knock off the Knights if they see them in March.
2021 6-5 W Chance Moore
(Holy Innocents’ to McEachern)
Onto his third school in as many years, the four-star All-State wing transfers into McEachern to try and save MaxPreps Player of the Year Sharife Cooper’s senior season. Moore is the sixth transfer to move to McEachern and will provide the Indians with someone who can create their own offense. Moore is a smooth scorer from all three levels but his length and rebounding will be most important to McEachern. The Indians have a lot to prove coming down the stretch. They are still a scary team with the amount of individual talent they have, but they will need to all be on the same page so blowout losses like 83-57 to Grayson and 82-64 to Shiloh don’t happen anymore.
2022 6-8 F Joyful Hawkins
(Decatur to Kell)
After transferring from Brunswick to Decatur in the offseason, Hawkins has never been eligible to play and will be a long shot to ever see the floor at Kell this season. He moves to Kell with teammate Parrish Johnson, who started at Decatur this year. Johnson and Hawkins both play on the travel circuit with Kell star guard Scooter Henderson for Game Elite Big 5. Whenever Hawkins gets eligible, he will form the best 1-2 punch in Class 5A with Henderson, giving Coach Jermaine Sellers a dynamic duo. The All-State big man is a game changer with his scoring ability and rim protection. Kell is quickly becoming a destination and will be a force to be reckon with over the next three seasons.
