Trent Lamar, Lexington: Trent started off the game early for Lexington with one of the most impressive moves in the game. He received the ball in the post with his back to the basket. He gave a “Dream-Shake” fake, faking to the left and falling away to make a bucket. A minimal complaint with Trent is that as good as that move was, his team needed it more.
Austin Gray, Lexington: Austin was a sharp shooter for Lexington. He had two first quarter three pointers and was feeling it. He was able to drive aggressively and dish to his bigs for easy buckets. He needs to be able to create his own shot. It’s not a horrible thing, but it is going to help his expand if he can create his shot and get open. He struggled a little in telegraphing his passes and allowing the defense to get easy steal.
Juvonne Shanes, Lauderdale County: Juvonne got a quick start for the Tigers scoring their first five points. He did well, late in the game, getting to the freethrow line and capitalizing. His clutch freethrows sealed the win for the Tigers. He had quick hands on defense, but sometimes fell susceptible to being lazy on defense and relying on his quick hands. It’s important to slide your feet and then use your hands to create steals.
Connor Smith, Lauderdale County: Connor was a natural scorer for the Tigers. He came right out of the gate with a big three pointer. He would finish making three three pointers. He has a smooooooth pull up jump shot typically from fifteen foot out. He was able to do this going to his right and going to his left. He was excellent in passing particularly bounce passes. He threw a dime from half court off the bounce to his running big for an easy basket. His only problem was that it seemed like he did not have a variety of moves. It seemed like it was a three pointer or a midrange, but never really saw an attack to the basket. Another move will be able to free up his smooth looking jumper.
Xavier Mitchell, Lauderdale County: Xavier is a good example of a player doing what he was supposed to do, despite limited minutes. He came in and in his first possession, he hit a tough step back jump shot going to his left from the foul line. Tonight, though, was not really his night, so he spent a lot of time on the bench. He came back into the game and found a way to get to the freethrow line. He did an excellent job at doing small things and contributing to the team in whatever way he could.
