Olympia entered into the game as a heavy favorite and everything went about as planned for them as they ran away with a 56-31 victory.
Game Notes:
There were multiple stretches where 2021 6’3 SG Kai Johnson and 2021 6’10 PF Jackson Grant were taking turns scoring for Olympia. After the first half I noted it was the Kai Johnson and Jackson Grant show and then it was even more of the same of the second half, so the game as a whole was really their show. Kai finished with a game high 17 points on 8/12 shooting, scoring in a variety ways. He has a really nice soft touch on his floater and he can shoot the pull up from the midrange. He is slowly but surely adding some strength, but this is a department he will want to continue to grow with. Jackson was very efficient in his 22 minutes, scoring 16 points on 7/10 shooting and he secured the double-double with his game high 11 rebounds. The Washington commit displayed impressive footwork and a nice left handed finish with soft touch off the glass. He is such a great mixture of length and skill at 6’10.
Olympia is more than just their two leading scorers as multiple others play a role in the team’s success by impacting the game in other ways. 2021 6’2 G Zack Swanson runs some point and really sits down in a stance on the defensive end. 2020 6’3 G Ehtan Gahm is a strong guard capable of playing either backcourt position. He can attack and finish and he is a solid passer as well. A small college prospect for the next level.
Overall, Olympia strikes me as a hard-nosed, tough group. They are well coached and play a great team game that is fun to watch.
Tahoma had an extremely rough shooting night finishing 26.7% for the night and got off to an even colder start hitting only 19% of their shots in the first half.
2020 6’4 G JC Humphrey was a bright spot for Tahoma in the loss, despite not having his most efficient night. Taking away his 1/7 from the three line, JC had a solid game finishing with 12 points and 6 rebounds while handling much of the point guard responsibilities. He is a big, strong guard that can attack off the bounce. He has some inside-out ability as he can really play 1-4 at the high school level. The unsigned senior showed off some creativity in his finishing and can do so with his off-hand around the basket. JC is a very good small college prospect!
