Coaches from Appalachian State, Delaware, George Mason, Georgetown, La Salle, Richmond, Northwestern, Shenandoah, Stevenson, Towson, Vanderbilt & Washington Adventist were spotted in the gym throughout the day. Here we highlight 8 local standouts from Monday’s action.
JORDAN BATTLE | NORFOLK COLLEGIATE ‘20
Battle led his team to an impressive win over Sidwell Friends. The explosive 6-foot-2 combo guard showcased a solid handle, good paint-getting ability, and impressive playmaking skills. Battle helped clean the glass, showing that he can rebound in traffic. He was also active and alert defensively, especially off the ball.
MAX BROOKS | ST. CHARLES ‘20
Brooks is a long-limbed left-handed forward who is starting to fill out his broad frame. He is a great rim protector who can rebound out of his area and put the ball on the deck to start the break. Brooks is coming along offensively. He made all four of his free throws and hit a mid-range jumper off two dribbles.
MALIK CARSON | ROCK CREEK ‘20
Carson’s versatility was on full display throughout Rock Creek’s win over Constitution (PA). On the defensive end, he used his length to effectively alter many shots and blocked a few others. Carson shot the ball well from the perimeter but also looked comfortable scoring from the in-between areas.
TREMAINE CHESLEY | ST. CHARLES ‘20
Chesley set the tone defensively with his relentless activity, stingy ball denial, and quick reactions. He was best offensively in transition, where he demonstrated the ability to finish with either hand at the rim and did not shy away from contact. Chesley was also quite effective in half-court offense at times. He made a one-dribble pull-up from 15 feet and made a nice pocket pass to assist a teammate.
GUY FAUNTLEROY | RIVERDALE BAPTIST ‘21
Fauntleroy shot the ball well from distance and showcased a nice in-between game. His ability to create space off the bounce was noteworthy. Fauntleroy defended well and rebounded nicely from his lead guard position.
MILTON MATTHEWS | ROCK CREEK ‘20
Milton Matthews continues to shoot the cover off the ball. The lefty sniper has unlimited range and supreme confidence in his shot. Despite the fact that most teams prepare and game plan for him, Matthews has been a consistent producer.
ERIK REYNOLDS | BULLIS ‘21
Reynolds stepped up for his team against a tough Carroll defense. His ability to create off the bounce was evident. Reynolds also did his due diligence defensively. He rebounded well in and out of his area, but also blocked a couple of shots, recorded a handful of deflections, and swiped a few steals.
RYAN WILLIAMS | NORFOLK COLLEGIATE ‘21
Williams is a good spot-up shooter who caught fire from three. The junior wing hit 5 of 9 from downtown in his team’s win over Sidwell. Williams also played with good effort. He wasn’t afraid to put his body on the line and dive on the floor for 50/50’s.
