Their defensive efforts and multi-dimensional offensive attack impressed from the jump, and despite a mini-run in the second by Kaukauna, Neenah sat comfortably in the driver’s seat throughout the second half.
Below are a handful of key performers from Neenah’s Tuesday night win.
Max Klesmit – 2020 – Neenah: Despite the defense tracing him obsessively the half-court, Klesmit’s hard-earned 30 points fueled Neenah’s victory. The Wofford commit possesses the same shot-making ability that led to his breakout junior season, but it’s apparent that he improved as an athlete (which was displayed with a baseline drive-and-dunk in the second half along with numerous and-one finishes).
Jake Dietz – 2021 – Neenah: The sophomore was an integral piece in Neenah’s state-run last season. But, a year removed from his success as a bench piece, Dietz is starting to dominate as an isolation scorer. His fluid mid-range game and strength in the post led to 23 points on the night.
Carter Thomas – 2022 – Neenah: Thomas made his case for a spot in the player rankings this summer, and reaffirmed his elite skill level tonight. The lengthy, score-first forward made a steady impact throughout the game, flashing a bullish driving game and ability to maneuver around on the block.
Charlie Wolfgram – 2021 – Neenah: Wolfgram made an appearance at the Prep Hoops 250 Expo, but tonight, played with improved game-sense and scoring influence. He leaked out in transition for a handful of transition points, worked his way to the free-throw line, and displayed a smooth and capable jump shot.
Tyson Stelow-Waldrop – 2022 – Kaukauna: Stelow-Waldrop’s complimentary playstyle proved crucial to Kaukauna’s second-unit. The 6’5” sophomore flourished on the block, putting back misses, finishing at an efficient clip and giving Kaukauna a pure-forward presence.
With three seniors in their starting-five, Stelow-Waldrop’s performance this season is a glimpse at the next wave of Kaukauna talent.
