It began as a high-energy game. These two teams were tied at 18 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, St. Peter’s Prep gained an advantage without Mark Armstrong and held a five point lead at halftime.
The second half was more of the same. Neither team could completely pull away but St. Peter’s Prep did enough to maintain their slim lead until the end. Some late foul shots added to their lead and they were able to salt away a 64-54 victory. Here are some of the top prospects from both teams.
Rayshawn Ford (2021) | St. Peter’s Prep
In Armstrong’s absence, Ford took over the game for St. Peter’s Prep. He was the player who had the ball in his hands at the end of the game. He knocked down eight free throws over the final 1:30 and finished 10-13 from the line. Ford scored 26 points and grabbed six rebounds in the win. He was just one of two members of St. Peter’s Prep to score in double-figures. The 6’2 guard has all the tools to be a strong player at the next level.
Jakin Edmond (2020) | Union
Edmond has been Union’s top gun all season long. St. Peter’s Prep came in with a game plan to stop Edmond and that was clear from the opening tip. Edmond finished just below his season average of 12.5 points with 11 in the loss. Regardless, Edmond still played like the best player on his team. He is 6’2 but plays even bigger than that. He is a strong, physical player that is not afraid to go up against anyone bigger. Edmond has many impressive finishes at the rim in this game.
Will White (2020) | St. Peter’s Prep
White was the other St. Peter’s Prep player in double-figures. He finished with 12 points on 3-6 from the field. He was the clear quarterback of the offense. White served as the point guard and the ball was in his hands more than anyone else. White was completely in control when his team was on offense. White led the team with eight assists. He was a complete point guard. The control that he had in his game was the most impressive thing from the senior.
Markeith Hinnant (2020) | Union
Hinnant match Union’s team-high with 11 points against St. Peter’s Prep. He knocked down one of his team’s four three’s as well. Hinnant was an underrated part of this offense. He has the skill to takeover a game at any minute but was not used much. Hinnant has a smooth stroke from the outside and is a strong defensive player. He is a hustle guy that any coach would like to have on their side.
Mike Farrell (2020) | St. Peter’s Prep
There are certain players that give off the vibe of being a smart basketball guy. Farrell was one of those players. First, his size grabs your attention from the announcement of the starting lineups. The 6’5 forward possesses great size and strength. His athleticism takes over in his game. Second, Farrell features a large arsenal of post moves down low. He is an intriguing player to keep an eye on and someone that you would enjoy watching over the course of the season.
Emeka Iloh (2022) | Union
The lone sophomore on Union’s roster is Iloh. His offensive game is not completely polished just yet but it will be during his time as an upperclassman. Iloh is a name to remember because of his size. Iloh’s ceiling is extremely high. On the defensive end, he is already a proven rim protector who can block shots at will. As he learns to use his size more on offense, Iloh will turn into a true threat on both sides of the ball.
