The Rockwall Yellowjackets and JJ Pierce Mustangs kicked off this game with precision never letting the other get a sizeable lead over the other. Rockwall would leave with the victory but not before showing off 6 prospects you should know.
Senior Jamal Wiley is a glue guy down to his DNA. He uplifts teammates when not on the floor and gives energy when he is. Wiley has a great frame for the off guard spot and is an active defender. He attacks the rim off cuts and dives and has the pop to finish well against size.
Sherman Brashear looks ready to fill a role for a college team today. A long 6-4 wing with a strong frame and the skill to get a bucket on his own or in the flow of the offense. His biggest impact may be the defensive end when it’s all said in done but that won’t stop him from being a presence offensively as he averages 8 free throws a game.
Sophomore Brennan Ray popped in limited minutes. He knocked down threes, hustled for boards, and broke up plays by stopping ball handlers.
Freshman Dean Ballo is a name to know for a reason. At this age, he already possesses the feel for the game to make easy plays. Between his handle, good decision making, and scoring repertoire his stock only goes up from here.
Walker Timme is all about the fundamentals. The junior big man stays disciplined on both sides of the court limiting turnovers and favoring the right play over the flashy. Without crazy length or overwhelming size, Time continues to produce in the paint on the back of strength and touch.
Cameron Owens is one of the most disciplined defenders I’ve seen at the high school level. He’s not an attacker who’ll leave the gym with 5 steals but he’s a container with the lateral quickness to mirror opponents. On offense, he’s a smart passer with the vision and confidence to throw passes in tight windows. Armed with quick handles, a strong thick body, and a high IQ Owens looks like a perimeter defensive specialist at lower levels.
