Continue ReadingEach and every year you have a young gunner step onto the high school scene and make an immediate impact. Some years it’s one in others it’s two. This year however it’s a handful of guys who are playing major roles on teams and looking like legit prospects for the next level already. Here is a list of Freshmen you might want to get hip to early.
Johntarius Green, 6’0 PG, Montgomery Catholic: It’s in his DNA to be a baller as he is the nephew of current Los Angeles Clippers forward Jamichel Green. This quick and explosive guard has all the tools early to be a legit D1 prospect. He has good size with a frame you know will continue to expand over the next few years. He is already running a team that has a chance to compete for a state title and many nights they go as he goes. Very eager to see how he progresses over the next several years.
Keldric Faulk, 6’6 PF, Highland Home: Yea I know we just mentioned Keldric a few articles back, but when you’re doing what this Freshman is doing its worth another mention. His ability to score the basketball at such a young age is something to watch. His frame and hard-nosed mentality are hard for most to match on the court regardless of class or age. He has a grown man game already that allows him to dominate in the post and the athletic ability to finish above the rim over and threw defenders. Whether he chooses the gridiron or the hardwood expect to hear a lot from this name for years to come.
Julius Clark, 6’5 PF, Mountain Brook: Even though he’s playing for one the best programs of all time out of the state of Alabama. He has made an impact in the time he does get out on the floor. You see the potential when you watch him play, however, he is still a raw athlete. His size and mobility leave a lot to be excited about as he runs the floor well he just needs more run on the floor to continue to understand the game and where he can be successful. Definitely a project that should turn into a prospect.
Darrin Thompson, 6’0 PG, Mae Jemison: Again another one of those young players who is playing on a stacked team, but still finds his way on the court. He has good size for a Frosh and the ability to conduct a team with much older players. He is playing behind some really good talent however Coach Pride shows the utmost confidence in this youngster. He plays with real poise and control never seems to get sped up like most young players tend to do. As his body feels out he should turn out to be a really good player.
Brady Donlon, 6’5 PF, Homewood: Nothing like a young big that can shoot it, and that’s exactly what you have in Brady. His ability to step out and knock down shots has made him an intricate part of the Patriots team this season. On a team that lost about 10 seniors from last year’s team He has been a real ray of sunshine so far this season stepping up and playing a much-needed role that adds size and shooting ability. Minutes earned this year will only have him ready and able in years to come.
