Davis Thacker
6’4/G/Meridian Warriors
For only being a Freshman, Thacker looks very composed out there on the court and like he can handle the pressure. He is a very versatile player who can handle the ball well, shoot the 3, and score with crafty takes to the hoop, post moves or scrap plays, and jumpers. He already makes an impact for his team coming off the bench, so the next 3 years are just more time for him to grow and improve.
Gage Jones
6’1/Sophomore/Eagle Mustangs
Jones comes off the bench and/or starts for his team as a point guard. He is quick, a great ball handler, and sees the court well. He is also a good 3 point shooter when he gets on. He may make some mistakes here and there with turnovers, but he plays passionately and aims to get something done on the offensive end. As he continues to grow and work on his game, I think he will continue to be a vital player and possibly a top player on his team.
Jaxon Dines
5’10/G/Homedale Trojans
Dines is one of the best 3 point shooters I’ve seen and he’s only a freshman. His form looks great, the ball arch’s high, and his release is quick. I witnessed him hit several 3 pointers in a row during a game to help their team come back. He also has great court vision and can make some clean passes to cutters and on fast breaks. As he grows hopefully he can become faster, stronger, and an even more elite ball handler.
Tommy Hunter
5’10/PG/Bishop Kelly Knights
Hunter is another upcoming freshman player who seems to have a lot of potential. He makes a great point guard because of his size, handles, quickness, shooting ability, and most importantly craftiness. He know’s how to run the offense and does a great job finding open players while making plays and being a solid shooter to keep his defenders honest. I can see Hunter growing a lot taller and getting stronger and quicker as well.
Aidan McGarvin
6’3/G/Bishop Kelly Knights
Aidan McGarvin is another player for Bishop Kelly who is only a freshman but is looking like a well rounded player already. He has some height to give him more success near the hoop, but also can shoot outside and dribble like a guard. If he continues to work on his game and plays a little more aggressively I think he’s going to be a great player.
These are some standout freshman players I have seen so far. As I continue to watch more games hopefully I can build up another list.
